Overhyped book that let you down?
Shan wrote: "The Ritual by Shantel Tessier. I was so excited to read it i literally bought the whole triology before starting it. Then i got halfway through and realize the MMC was toxic and only liked the FMC ..."I lowkey though ab reading that but then i read other reviews and got rlly discouraged to reading it also it has like 0 plot

I am so glad someone else said Butcher and Blackbird! I am currently trying to sludge my way through that one after so many people have been raving about it. I started it on audiobook and couldn't get into it so I bought the physical book and it's just not it for me!
It Starts With Us literally could've just been an extended epilogue or like a bonus chapter or novella or something bc (no hate, just my opinion) i feel like it was longer than it needed to be
OOoh boy I've got a whole list :)1) Inheritance Games.
I dunno I didn't really get the hype. Okay, the mystery was AWESOME, the riddles were fun to think about, and *some* characters were fun and interesting. But the mcs (especially Avery like wtf) were boring. The romance was unnecessary, the dialogue between the love interests was corny (in the bad way), it had one of the god awful love triangles (love *corners*, I call 'em) and GOD I HATE JAMESON AND GRAYSON.
Honestly, Xander was the best character imo.
2) Powerless
Not a lot of criticisms, just a generally boring book that focuses a lot on the romance only. Like, no hate, I liked it enough to read, but I hate hate HATE the fact that most books like these just focus on romance an/or sex :\. (not that powerless had 18+ scenes)
Also, Kai was kind of a boring/mislead character ngl. They kept calling him ruthless and emotionless but he seemed pretty chill.
3) Shatter me series.
God it's just overhyped. Honestly, I don't get it. It's a you thing i guess.
Still don't get why Aaron Warner is so beloved though. Sure he's charming. But kinda mid imo?
4) Twisted series.
I don't even know how this got termed as a popular book. There's no chemistry between Ava and Alex, the characters are boring and kind of forced dialogue, the sex is mid, Alex is literally just using Ava.
I don't have that much of a problem with Ava, but it's always the SHITTY male love interest.
Also, ANY Cooleen Hoover book.

AGGGTM was okay ig, just overhyped and kinda mid

cruel prince is absolute shit
Anna wrote: "shatter me. I would hope it gets better because this one really didn't do anything for me. it was just so underwhelming agggtm. it just didn't give enough. I really wanted to adore it but it was ..."
ooohh boy, i feel ya
twisted emotionstook me forever to finish. it got good in the last 100 pages, but I couldn't get into it.
Powerless, and reckless😒 i started reading reckless like in june and im not even halfway through it😅Also i love the first shatter me book and ignite me but i hated unravel me. Waaay overhyped. Also, why do yall hate the last ouabh book?? Like that was my fav out of the whole series. Bc like in the first one jacks didnt rlly like her and in the balad of never after he was just hella passive aggressive...
‘A ship of bones and teeth’, Karina Halle. I'd never read a dark novel before, but because of the story's plot, I wanted to read this book. However, I found that it had very little content and very little story. I made an effort to read it to the end, to find out what the end of the story would be, but it fell far short of my expectations :(
Powerless, Lightlark, and The Cruel Prince.I know all of those books have large fandoms (don't come for me) but I just didn't care for any of them.
Books I thought lived up to their hype:
- Throne of Glass/ACOTAR
- One Dark Window
- Once Upon A Broken Heart
- Zodiac Academy (hot take, but the tea is piping hot)
- Fourth Wing (but not IF)

Agreed.
Has anyone read Intermezzo by Sally Rooney? I just read it and hated it but really want to talk to someone who loves it to understand the hype!
For the Wolf-it's so hard to want to read all the way through to the end. it's so bogged down and uninteresting and NOTHING really happens by page 100 but LORE that needs to be cut and the love interest is just another dark haired generic guy who is "special"

I love the better than the movies and the sweet sequel
I can already feel someone attacking me but I will say this once - Circe by Madeline Miller. Bored me to death.
Once Upon a Broken Heart and Red Queen started off sooo good and then just became a disappointment, in my opinion.
Sarah wrote: "I can already feel someone attacking me but I will say this once - Circe by Madeline Miller. Bored me to death." That's fair. I found Song of Achilles waaay better.
A thousand boy kisses SO BORING, I only got it because it was meant to be sad but it just didn't deliver (coming from somebody who cries at almost every book I read). The only bit that was genuinely sad was the grandma at the very beginning
The Ritual by Shantel Terrier - The girl was annoyingly spoiled & clueless and the guy was unattractively egotistical af. Lights Out by Navessa Allen - The MMC was too playful for me. I thought the storyline was gonna be more hardcore and i thought the MMC was gonna be borderline depraved- but he wasn't. :(
The Predator by RuNyx- Did he even like her bro? He NEVER opened up. She literally had to figure everything out because he simply wouldn't communicate.
Honestlyyyy Ashes and the Star cursed king, I liked serpent wings of the night more but it really wasn’t all that and the second book was just meh
Reading housemaid series now on the last book. I feel like all of Freida McFaddens books are last chapter twists which I don’t really like and a lot are predictable. They are still fun quick reads but I’m not super impressed.
Caraval. I was so bored and both the FMC's were so incredibly stupid. I reluctantly made it through book 1, skimmed book 2 and didn't even try book 3.

it's so cringey
