Burnout: The Emotional Experience of Political Defeat

It appears the only edition of this book in the database is a “Kindle” edition. I’m hoping to get the paperback edition added to the database.

There was a time when I could’ve simply added the edition myself. I take it this is no longer the case? Am I meant to ask a … librarian? … to do this? or, by joining this group, have I become a librarian? I’m a little confused and behind the times.

I certainly don’t want to make work for anyone. If I’m meant to do this myself, though, I cannot find any link to any page which’ll allow me to do so. If I’m meant to be asking someone else to do this, then I suppose I’ll add the edition’s ISBN-13 here, which is 978-1-83976-605-3 … and wait for the magic to happen?

Either way, if anyone’s inclined to guide me, I much appreciate the help!

Much love to all the book-inclined in these difficult times, and in the very like much-more-difficult times soon to come, but may glorious Sobek hear my plea, and spare us all from the “Project 2025” jackboots,
D

Ricky (danopticon) | 4 comments So I now see I’m meant to post this jn “Book Issues?”

I don’t normally feel this dumb, but I’m having no luck finding a thread or subthread titled Book Issues.

This new millennium is not being good to me! :-/

Ricky (danopticon) | 4 comments * Title - Burnout: The Emotional Experience of Political Defeat
* Author(s) name(s) - Proctor, Hannah
* ISBN (or ASIN) - 978-1-83976-605-3
* Publisher - Verso Books
* Publication Date Year - 2024
* Publication Date Month - April
* Publication Date Day - 9
* Page count - 264
* Format (such as paperback, hardcover, ebook, audiobook, etc) - Paperback
* Description - “How to maintain hope in the face of despair”

In the struggle for a better world, setbacks are inevitable. Defeat can feel overwhelming at times, but it has to be endured. How then do the people on the front line keep going? To answer that question, Hannah Proctor draws on historical resources to find out how revolutionaries and activists of the past kept a grip on hope.

Burnout considers despairing former Communards exiled to a penal colony in the South Pacific; exhausted Bolsheviks recuperating in sanatoria in the aftermath of the October Revolution; an ex-militant on the analyst’s couch relating dreams of ruined landscapes; Chinese peasants engaging in self-criticism sessions; a political organiser seeking advice from a spiritual healer; civil rights movement activists battling weariness; and a group of feminists padding a room with mattresses to scream about the patriarchy. Jettisoning self-help narratives and individualizing therapy talk, Proctor offers a different way forward - neither denial nor despair. Her cogent exploration of the ways militants have made sense of their own burnout demonstrates that it is possible to mourn and organise at once, and to do both without compromise.

Edwina Book Anaconda | 27007 comments Hi Ricky, you have posted this in the correct place.
Book Issues is for correcting titles, adding descriptions, combining books, etc.
It seems that someone created the paperback edition without adding the ISBN.
There was a change to policy about 2 years ago and now only librarians can add/edit books. If you'd like, you can apply to be a librarian by taking a test.

Note to Librarian: Book added without ISBN: 9781839766053 Please add here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
