You didn't say what genre. Paul McDonald's Sakura Bianchi thriller trilogy is great. A little darker maybe is "I Kill Killers" by S.T.Ashmon. Strong female main characters are pretty common in books I read. In extreme horror go for Talia and Talia 2 by Daniel J. Volpe or The Old Lady by Triana. In mainstream novels by household name authors you won't find tougher female leads and characters than in Karin Slaughter's works.Good luck in your search. It should be fairly easy I would think.
