Jackie | 1489 comments I'm here, ready to start any time.

Kirsten | 1236 comments Yay! Starting later today!

Jackie | 1489 comments I'm up to chapter 50. Disappointed that Saga hasn't a big part so far, just at the beginning. But I think she will play a prominent role in the second half.

Some of the scenes are really intense. I think this couple really does suspense well.

Kirsten | 1236 comments I forgot to turn on notifications so I wasn't sure if you'd started!

I've been really busy at work so I'm just 20 chapters in, but I am hoping to get a bunch read tonight. It has certainly started with a bang!

Jackie | 1489 comments I actually finished this evening. I'll wait until you get further in before commenting.

Kirsten | 1236 comments Okay, first, why wouldn’t Saga put underwear on? That leather would not be comfortable for a long shift without panties.

But basically, whoa. I’m 2/3s in and have no idea who the victims are for sure, much less the killer.

Rex is such a typical Kepler middle-aged man—I love his cheerfully blind jerks. I would hate them in real life, but they’re fun to read. And I’m guessing he’s into a world of hurt.

I am enjoying Joona in prison (though getting leave seems really weird). I like Marco, even though we don’t hear much about him.

Jackie | 1489 comments I guess Saga was in a hurry, lol. But I agree, leather would be hard on the private parts.

The victims become apparent further on and why they've been targeted. And the killer is revealed long before the end.

The whole thing with letting Joona out is kind of bizarre. It seems that the security force can't accomplish much on their own. They always need Joona to think for them.

I felt like there was a lot of unnecessary violence in this book. I particularly felt the way the prostitute was treated by the security force was horrible. It makes me wonder if that's truly how victims and potential criminals would actually be treated.

I agree, Rex is a typical Kepler character. The relationship between him and his son is so strained that I just wanted to smack them both.

Kirsten | 1236 comments There is a lot of very brutal violence against women. I’m nearly done, and this is incredibly suspenseful, but I need a break from the roughness of this book, on top of some of the other stuff I’ve been reading. I did not see the Rex and DJ family connection coming, so I couldn’t figure out why DJ was framing him—before I knew he was the RH, it was clear the whole blood/kitchen/car thing and then in retrospect the so easily verifiable lies about the friendship were a setup, but I wasn’t sure why.

Also, poor Parisa, Amira, and Gustav.

Jackie | 1489 comments I enjoy these books but they can be hard to read at times because of the brutality. I have to switch around to lighter reads after one.

Kirsten | 1236 comments And honestly, poor DJ.

Kirsten | 1236 comments So glad to have read this with you!

Jackie | 1489 comments Yes, I felt sorry for DJ. What a horrible childhood and situation.

Enjoyed reading this with you! Let's do another buddy read but maybe something lighter next time. :)

Kirsten | 1236 comments Definitely lighter!
