ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments I saw that! Unfortunately, the audio hold is super long. I’m surprised I was able to get the digital as fast as I did. I read the first chapter a few weeks ago and really liked it. Now it’s time to buckle down and get into it so I can release it back to the next person in line.

Oh, I was planning to. I read it as a sample and since I don’t remember any of it, I need to start over.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments no it was for school actually. he's in the same hospital he was last time, I am trying to get a hold of a social worker, but that's easier said than done.

Here's hoping the wheels of government turn efficiently for you! Or is it a private sector social worker?

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments Laura he's at the psychiatric hospital connected to Corona Regional, that's where he was last time. I did talk to a nurse today and she seems to be on the same page as me. So fingers crossed he gets the right dose and type of medication. I'm really pushing for the injection it last a month and if he acclimate well to that there's a three month injection. But he is so paranoid and delusional at the moment, it's heartbreaking to say the least. but yes this hospital is private. But I've been looking for a permanent housing solution and it's ridiculous, the one I called yesterday was 20K -40K a month.
I truly appreciate everyone's support. And I'm so open with this because if anyone else is struggling I want them to know they're not alone, this is the hardest thing I've ever gone through.

I hope it all works out. And it's really amazing how far our medicine/understanding/care have come in the past 40-ish years. My uncle had schizophrenia. As far as I know (I was a child, you understand) he didn't threaten anyone, so there was nothing to be done for him when he wouldn't take the meds. He ended up living in the desert as an adult and my grandparents couldn't force anything.

But there is so much further for our understanding to go. Did you read the book about the family with 6 out of 12 kids affected? Apparently there is something that is now being included in prenatal vitamins that may help brains that might have had problems to then develop past that.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments I have not read that yet, I do need to. They also just had a new medicine approved by the FDA. Yes we've come a long way, so I'm hopeful within his lifetime there will be a great answer. most people with schizophrenia are more apt to get hurt than hurt anyone. my son is so chill and non-confrontational by nature, but the disease has made him much more aggressive. That was the first time ever my boys got in a fight, they've never even had a verbal argument.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments Berit, I appreciate your openness about this. *hugs*

There’s more I’d love to say but it all feels so trite. ❤️

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments Didn’t finish my book last night but definitely making a dent today.

I’ve had a really strangely busy week at work and it’s left me so drained that I barely made dents into the 4 books I’ve been trying to read for assorted challenges.

I finished my in person book club book at 7 this morning because we met at 11 and I was determined not to go there having it left unfinished. It was my selection and I wanted to be able to host the discussion fully knowledgeable. Three of the five who attended completed the book. Our discussion inspired the other two to get back to finishing it. We have such an awesome, laid back group. None of us is ever precious about spoilers if we didn’t get to finish the books. It’s a group of all friends, so there’s no stuffy weirdness or super seriousness of some book clubs I’ve seen around. It’s just awesome.

Anyway, back to my Third Gilmore Girl book soon!

If you're enjoying it, great. But if you're struggling and want to use a pass, I did finish a second book that works for the task.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments No, it's not the book. I don't want to use a pass this early. I made great time through it today because I found an audio I could listen to at work. I've gotten SO many interruptions at work today, I could scream.

THANKS! Good to know! I had wondered but didn't have the mind to ask in my last post because I'd just discovered a mistake at work that I made months ago that caused a poor soldier to get put on hold and I was mad at myself and trying to figure out how to get it fixed.

I'm ready to go home and just chill!!!! And read my other books for my other challenges lol

I hate to say this, especially when you had been struggling to finish, but this book does not qualify for this challenge. Book have to be fiction in this challenge and this one is non-fiction. 🙁

I will go ahead and assign the next task (Task 3), but this book will need to be made up before I assign Task 4. This can be done by using your pass and having someone else post a qualified completion. Or you can read another book that qualifies.

message 77: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31598 comments Here is your next task!

Task 3 - 7. Read 4 books that are stand alones.

Books selected for this task can not be listed in any series on GR.

PS - I will be generous and allow you to double up with this task Teresa, if you read a book that qualifies for both Task 2 and Task 3. 😉

Oh no! I knew about the nonfiction rule, but I confused Pass the Parcel and this challenge. In Pass the Parcel there is an exception for memoirs.

Oh! I do work at a college. I invoice the Army for soldiers who use army tuition assistance.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments Oh bugger! I had JUST seen the non-fiction rule and somehow forgot the book I was reading was Non-fiction. D’oh, what a noob 🤣🤣

I have another book that qualifies. I just need to finish it. Should be done tonight/tomorrow.

And I’ve got plenty of books for task 3.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments perfect standalone is no problem.

Task 3 (but this is my Task 2 Replacement book for "published within the last year")
Book: The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year
Page count: 303
Date Read: 10/23/24
Rating: **
How it fits: Published 9/24/24

Okay I have a major issue with this Kindle default version because if I'm looking at the book editions on GR correctly, the first (aka default??) Kindle edition is showing as 110 pages, but the ISBN on my book matches the hard cover, which is 304 pages.

I actually read 304 pages. There's no way any edition of this book should be 110 pages. That's a novella, while this was very clearly a novel.

The next Kindle edition shows 302 pages, but a publication date of today... yet I read my book yesterday and the day before.

So, I'm putting down the ISBN that I read, which appears to be the hard cover edition but in digital format. (My copy even says "Digital Edition: September 2024 ISBN: 978-0-06-327673-4")

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments I just finished this book as well, I really liked it, much more than you it seems, only two stars? I thought it was so fun.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments I listened on audio and it was 12 hours, so definitely not a 110 page book? That's probably a typo or a mistake.

Laura | 1148 comments LaurLa is a GRs librarian so she may be able to fix it. But I’m pretty sure the minimum for this challenge is 100 pages and this isn’t a # of pages task, so you should be good.

For some reason, I thought it was 150 pages.

I found it a combination of fun but annoying, lol. The things that annoyed me were too glaring for me to rate it higher. I think I read it in a particularly picky mood, lol.

When it's a Kindle edition that needs fixing, I usually give her a link to the book on Amazon. Amazon shows the September pub date and 303 pages, so she can probably fix it.

https://www.amazon.com/Most-Wonderful...

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments Thanks, Laura! I've never really had to reach out to a GR librarian to have any books added or fixed so I wasn't sure how much detail I would need to give. I was prepared to give probably more than is needed, lol.

I read a lot of indie authors. Their book entries can get really messed up. They're not the only ones, but they are frequent enough that I have a system. :)

In Turf Wars we have a thread devoted to page count correction requests. There are some every round!

message 94: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1148 comments Even if LaurLa can’t change the page count, she should be able to change the pub date. Which would mean that you could use that page count.

message 96: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5085 comments I updated the page count on the first (first published, that's what Kat means by first) Kindle edition to 303 which is what is on Amazon. The other Kindle edition Teresa referenced that had a pub date of 10/24 is actually a paperback version from another country... not sure what country since the link goes to the US Amazon site and just says it's not available in 'your' country. Anyway, I updated the format so it won't cause any questions about what is the first published Kindle edition.

I tried to follow the changelog to see why it was marked as Kindle when it clearly shows on the Amazon site as paperback but I couldn't tell. With all the crap with the 'bots', automatic uploads and updates that have been going on this year, I feel like a lot of changes get lost because of book merges and deletions. It's such a mess...

Hope I actually fixed what was your concern. Teresa, I think you need to change your link in your post to the Kindle version... at least for the page count link. It sometimes takes overnight for the book's main page to show page count and format changes, but you can see them right away in the editions list. So below are the Kindle format link and the editions page link
The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year

LaurLa | 5085 comments So, ugh. Nothing I have planned for TW is a standalone.... So let me go looking at what I can do.

message 98: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1148 comments Kat doesn’t care what edition we link. I always link what I read (often audio). It’s just the page count has to be from the earliest Kindle edition. Teresa, I think you need to change your page count to 303, not 304.

message 99: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5085 comments That's right.. it's in PtP we need to link the page count edition if it's different than the edition we read.
