LaurLa | 5085 comments Sorry Berit.. I can read 2 for this one, though not particularly fast.

message 202: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1148 comments I can read 1 for sure. Maybe 2, but like LaurLa it won't be particularly fast. This is the problem with always having my KU maxed out. I have to finish something else first. :)

Just went to check my book on Amazon and Amazon informs me I bought the book 2+ years ago. So I should be good to finish this first one a little quicker.

Edit: And the second one was purchased even further back. They are probably both from Stuff Your Kindle days. :)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments i'm sure I can find something. Who knows maybe I'll be a historical romance convert.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments Meh. I’ve got a few books i need to read before i get to this. Maybe. I’ll see if anything HR jumps out at me at my many libraries and go from there.

I don’t mind HR, it just doesn’t fit my other books I need nor my current mood (though I don’t really know what my mood is lol)

Ditto... got to get through a few others first....

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments I found something, I just can't do those Regency romances.

message 208: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Nov 17, 2024 04:48AM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments I can read two books for this but again, not sure how fast. It helps that we can use separate tags and not strictly “historical romance”.

I found some books marked historical and romance they aren’t “regency”. One I’m going to read is set during the Harlem Renaissance. Not sure what the other one I’ll choose is.

On the more typical historical romance side, I love Amanda Quick so might read one of hers. Or KJ Charles has some fun sounding historical m/m romances.

message 209: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5085 comments T, we need six books, so I figure the first 6 done are good to go! Laura doesn't usually focus on HR and as stated, Berit doesn't care for the genre, so that's why I spoke up. Someone else will need to do 2, so if you want it, take it!

message 210: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Nov 17, 2024 05:44AM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments Cool. I’ll commit to two for this so Laura and Berit can focus on other books they would rather read.

My options:
A Love Song for Ricki Wilde 347 pages (12 hours)
The Girl Who Knew Too Much 356 pages (10 hours)
The Last Bookshop in London 320 pages (8 hours)
Never Fall for Your Fiancée 363 pages (11 hours)
The Magpie Lord 204 pages
A Duke, the Lady, and a Baby 320 pages

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments Good grief, I spent a LOT more time out of the house today than I intended. My friend, Summer talked me into shopping at the book store and then two dollar stores AND Aldi, lol. I had a blast, haven't been out of the house for fun like that in probably a month. (Babysitting last week WAS fun, but not the same as shopping with an adult, lol).

We had our book club meeting this morning, too, which was fun even though I didn't read our book. I am inspired by the discussion to read it, though. It's a lot of pages and I don't think it's historical so I won't be reading it anytime soon LOL. Doesn't work for any of my GR challenges. It's Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Boulley

Laura, how is your real life book club going?

Definitely going to! Thanks for the rec!

I started the other two first and decided to get them done because both worked for another challenge.

Might start Ricky Wilde today.

Laura | 1148 comments I just realized this afternoon that my book club is tomorrow, not next week. I've finished my book for the part that meets at 6:30, but I haven't even started my 'After Dark' book. So I'll be doing that one all day tomorrow and I should have my historical fiction done on Thursday. I'm so grateful that you two volunteered for two books each!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments What are your books this month, Laura?

Laura | 1148 comments ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) wrote: "What are your books this month, Laura?"

I already read Well Met, but I think the Love & Lit club is also going to talk about Cash because the book store had a special event with the author last week. I’m not trying to read that one.

The Love & Lit After Dark book is Green Light. I read for about an hour last night and I might not be able to do this one. We’ll see how it goes this morning.

But the After Dark book club received ARCs of Grave Matter, so I do need to get that read very soon!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 86 comments Green Light sounds like a hard pass for me.

Cash makes me feel cowboy romance fatigue and I'm not even reading the latest influx of all those cowboy romances with similar covers and typeset. My tolerance for alphamales and cheesy dialogue has dissipated. Every time I read reviews of those books with dialogue quotes, I cringe and roll my eyes.

Grave Matter sounds good! And I've still got Well Met checked out, after we discussed it a few weeks ago.

message 220: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1148 comments Yeah, Cash just didn’t interest me. Although the event was a launch of a very pretty special edition. I’m just not going to pay $30 for a special edition of a book I’ve never heard of that is available in KU.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments my book club is tomorrow as well, but I am not reading the book. My mom is in the club as well and she didn't love it, so I'm giving it a pass. But trust me I still have things to say, about a book I didn't read.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments and cowboy romance are a hard pass always for me.

You can't tell us all of this and not drop the name of the book!

I often join the discussions for books I don't read with my book club. We tend to go off on tangents and side discussions that are somehow related to the themes of the book so everyone ends up contributing in some way even if they did not read the book. I love it.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 497 comments it's something with armadillo in the title. Maybe it's the history of the armadillo? Let me doublecheck.

LaurLa | 5085 comments I'm so bummed - I had a HR that I added to the TW list because it had 'man' in the title... then realized it didn't meet the page count requirement here. Sigh. But I've started another historical (that will be 3 this month *gasp*) and should be finished by tomorrow at the latest.

Are you good with that one? The one I just posted was not the one I originally planned. It was one on the Turf Wars list. If you need me to, I can finish the rest of the one I stopped for my book club book. Otherwise, I'll probably wait until after Turf Wars to finish it.

You can wait and see what MKat wants to do with it, unless LaurLa comes along and adds the edition to the book.

LaurLa | 5085 comments Laura wrote: "You can wait and see what MKat wants to do with it, unless LaurLa comes along and adds the edition to the book."

I switched it to Kindle Edition. Someone had combined editions and made it paperback but the paperbacks on the Amazon site and World Cat don't match the ISBN - it does match the ISBN for an ebook version and the ASIN matches Amazon's ASIN for their Kindle format -- so I changed it.

Berit - just edit your post to say Kindle edition, I think.

MountainKat | 31599 comments I will check books later, I just snuck away for a minute and checked the computer too.

Here is your next task!

Task 9 - 44. Read 6 books by authors who use initials in their name.

Examples would include J.D. Robb, Jennifer L. Armentrout or T.J. Klune. Include the author's name in your completion post.

message 243: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5085 comments I can probably do 2 again if needed. But will wait to see what everyone else says.

Guest Night on Union Station E.M. Foner
Jingle Wars R. Holmes

Laura | 1148 comments I have one that I can read on Tuesday. LaurLa, if you don't want to do a second one, I can take a second one after that.

message 250: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5085 comments The second I was planning turns out not to really be an initial. It's a pseudonym the author uses (or used) but they have since updated amazon with their real name on the cover - I updated the record and it now doesn't list the pseudonym name with an initial.

I have another option but I thought I'd wait to see how many we get before deciding either way.
