When Alex’s dad dies, she heads back to North Carolina to spend some time with her mother’s sister and her cousins. Their life - running a shop selling herbal teas and soaps - is far removed from Alex’s risk management job in New York. Especially when Alex finds that they are witches … and that she might have inherited her mother’s magic too. Then someone who visited the shop dies, and Alex’ aunt is arrested for murder. Since the cops are apparently doing nothing, Alex starts to investigate and finds more than anyone bargained for.
This has its good bits, including some of the magic concepts, but the writing is uneven, the characters are inconsistent and Alex is such an annoying character - dashing around accusing people and taking steps that it’s obvious are unwise. Latitude for the fact that’s usually the case with these cosies, and I think this was the author’s first book so she is getting the hang of things. It’s a nice light Fall Flurries read but I wouldn’t particularly recommend it.
