Welcome to the Gothikana Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on October 2nd and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

okay I started! so far it's....good. like, really good. I didn't know what to expect and I went into this only half knowing what it was about but I haven't been able to put it down 😆

nothing much of note in the first few chapters since the story was being set up but chapter 4:
(view spoiler)[ Mr. Deverell sounds so hot 🥵 if there's no smut in this book I'm going to be really disappointed 😂 and that's coming from someone who doesn't actively read or look for smut. the tension between Corvina and Vad so just off the charts. and he's already said a few things I've highlighted in my kindle that I wish someone would say to me irl 😂 (hide spoiler)]

chapter 5
(view spoiler)[ that story about the castle being haunted was creepy af. some books hype up the big secret/mystery but this book just came out with it and I felt like it was out of left field so it creeped me out a bit. I'm wondering who's gonna go missing at the black ball this year 👀 (hide spoiler)]

Ok, I’m through chapter 5! (view spoiler)[I absolutely agree with your smut comment! He’s got me blushing. And my heart is racing anticipating the spooky stuff. I can’t decide if I’m more highly anticipating the romance or the scary stuff. I have very high hopes so far. I hope it lives up to the current vibes! (hide spoiler)]

okay, up to chapter 14....it's gotten interesting to say the least.

(view spoiler)[ we definitely did get smut but tell my why I cringed sooo hard at it! absolutely hated it lol. I'm so disappointed by it. sigh. other than, Troy was... surprising to say the least. (hide spoiler)]

Alright! I finished it last night! Overall I'm a big fan. The author was new to me, so I will definitely be tracking down more of their books. There were some cringe moments, but overall, I'm happy with it. It definitely fits the vibe. Now for some more (very rambley) specifics...

(view spoiler)[I don't know when I started suspecting Jade, but I don't think it was till almost the very end. The body in the cabin totally threw me, and I love that there was just enough mysteriousness that was both explained but also left up to interpretation. Like if you wanted to, you could justify it all as some schizophrenic manifestation, but you could also easily just say it was ghosts. Troy's death was so sad. I felt it. I also felt her turmoil about whether she should trust Vad. The spooky tunnel in the end being a potential opening for the next book in a series was a nice touch. I honestly haven't looked into it yet to see if there are any plans for more in the series, but it could be good. (hide spoiler)]

Anyway-- thanks for recommending it! Very glad I read it.
