i mean, it really depends on what books you're reading. if they're books that quite literally romanticise problematic things like abuse, sexual assault etc then im on your friend's side (although bringing up religion is not something i would do)

I have experienced this not just with friends but with the select family that I’ve told. It sucks, and I’m sad to know that people in my life don’t want to talk about my stuff and support me in it. And yes, I would love to be book friends and perhaps more! Feel free to reach out!
Unfortunately I’ve had some family members judge me on what I’m reading and even got into some arguments over it. Read what you’re comfortable with. I think that’s the fun thing about reading is that everyone has different opinions on all kinds of genres. As long as others can be respectful about it. Life is too short to be worrying about what others think. I’m always open to more book friends 😃

I personally think reading taste is very similar to music taste. Some people are gonna love it and some are going to hate it, but either way read what you'd like. Many read topics that they don't even agree with just to get a second view or to be able to review authors. It's not that big. I've ready many controversial books both Fiction and Non-fiction. Reading should be a safe place to enjoy what you want to enjoy and expand your mind ❤️
my old friend always said that books I read are cringy or stupid, without any important message or topic,because she reads "serious books" while I read fantasy and romance🙄 so after that I lied about what I was reading and I stopped talking about books because I was afraid of being judged
I talked with my friends about my books and because I'm reading dark romance they looked shocked and were like Wtf you reading there, it's not good for you and I was just but it's interesting.
