PtP R23 - Dough Go Breaking My Heart (8)

Book:Keeping 13 by Chloe Walsh

Pages: 938 (kindle edition)
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review: This is the completion of Shannon and Johnny's story and I must say that I liked this one better than the first one. The second part of their journey is as heartbreaking as the first, if not more. Shannon's story is devastating and I felt really sorry for her and her brothers. Johnny is an amazing guy and I loved how protective he was with Shannon's brothers, especially little Sean. I'm definitely continuing this series since the next 2 books are about Joey and then the last one in the series is about Gibs, one of my favourite characters, since he brings the light in a story that otherwise would be too dark and sad. I'm glad that Shannon and Johnny had her happily ever after cause they deserve it, even if I would have loved to see an epilogue set in the future.

Review: I’m enjoying this series after reading most of the follow on first family series first. This one covers Sam bringing down a call girl ring and brings Scotty into the story line. It’s action packed and has some heartbreak in it as well. Even though I know what happens from reading the first family series I still really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Saint and Lowe have been best friends since they met and they write beautiful music together. Fans write crazy fanfic about them, but they’re just friends. Saint hides that he’s been in love with his best friend even as he calls him every time his life crashes and burns. Then Lowe starts feeling a little more than friendship for his friend. This story was predictable at times, but still a great story and a wonderful follow-up to Pretty Obsessed. We also get a little more of the story about Cas and Iris woven into the back. I have a feeling they’re going to be a train wreck. But what do you expect from a band named Pretty Broken?

Merry Elf-ing Christmas by Beth Bolden

Read: (12/3)
Rating: ★★★★½
Yay for sweet, adorable Christmas romances. Aidan was born to the Tir na Nog elves and wanted nothing more than to be assigned to a leprechaun, but poor Aiden has his life uprooted because a stupid sign in the stars says that he is destined to save Christmas. Now he's stuck freezing up in the North Pole and accompanying Santa on Christmas Eve to make sure he's available whenever he might be needed to "save Christmas." But then the unexpected happens and due to Santa's snack needs he finds himself meeting a human, a human he's so drawn to he can't help but give him his email.
This was lovely as Aidan and Dex get to know each other through their emails and both find themselves falling hard. Together though the future is bright and Christmas may just bring them together again. :)
I smiled throughout this one as these two fell for each other and Aidan himself began to discover why maybe being a North Pole elf isn't such a bad thing afterall.

I think you should be ok. You can’t fall more than 2 books behind so if you post your completion for either week 8 or 9 before posting your selection for this week i think that’s fine.

Okay, that makes me feel a little better! Thank you for the quick reply!

Hi everyone
Just a reminder that the next call heads into the second last week of the challenge.
This means that you need to get up to date with your reading, but also - no-one call pull out of the challenge for whatever reason once I put up that second last theme.
***
And for the final week, if you wish to use option 2, you will be selecting your book from the bookshelves of another team's list of members. I will let you know which team's bookshelves are available to you when I post the last theme.

All good per Hazel's comments :)

Week #9, Option #1
Book: The Runaway Bride of Blitzen Bay

Author: Donna Schwartze
Date read: 4 Dec

Review: I seem to be unnaturally attached to the Runaway Bride trope. I'm not sure why I like it so much, but definitely enjoy most of the books I've read with the trope. This one was light and sweet, and particularly good because the MCs were both quite thoughtful about their situation. It was a fun read.

Review: Tweet and Noah’s story is one of my all time favourite romances, so I was very excited when the actor decided to publish their daughter love story. Unfortunately this book didn’t .. my expectations at all. Halle and Brandon met when they were 5 years old on Halloween and they fell for each other instantly. However in their teens Brandon for some unexplained reason decided to start treating Halle poorly, so much that she thought he hates her and couldn’t understand why. Halle is also Brandon’s little sister best friend and he often treats her like a kid. For half of the book, Halle is with Ryan, Brandon’s best friend so they avoid each other for two years. But then something tragic happens to Ryan so Halle and Brandon reconnect and in a couple of days they go from not talking to saying I love you..
This book felt so rushed, I couldn’t see the connection between Brandon and Halle and there was definitely something missing. There’s no reason why Brandon treats Halle this badly and there’s no reason for him to switch so suddenly in the span of a day. I loved seeing Tweet and Noah 20 years into the future, but unfortunately that’s the only thing I liked about this book.

Review: While the overall "suspense" of the plot was a bit lacking, overall this was a pretty decent introduction to a group of elite undercover agents who might be family. This was a second-chance romance between Sophia and Cameron who had "split up" five years ago when Cameron mysteriously left--and joined Omega Sector. Sophia is a graphic designer working for the FBI but gets caught up in Cameron's undercover assignment when she's asked by a coworker to help get photographs of warehouses. I LOVED that Sophia actually listened to Cameron when he instructed her on what to do to survive their situation, but not without some struggles though, like her claustrophobia coming into play. When you're out of your element and it's life or death, you better listen to the professionals!

Pages: 410
Rating: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Review: I usually don’t read many paranormal books but I was very curious about this one cause I like Ali Hazelwood writing style. And I must say this book didn’t disappoint at all. It kept me enthralled from beginning to end. I felt the chemistry between Misery and Lowe for the whole time and I especially loved little Ana. This book was definitely a breath of fresh air after so many “meh” ones.
