Avigail (avigailr) | 666 comments Dear teammates, I am sorry for posting my selection a little late. The truth is that since Wednesday, my days have been sad. You know that I am in Israel, and for a year now, we have been in a horrific war situation both in the south of Israel against Hamas and in the North against Hezbollah. On Tuesday evening, a day before the Jewish New Year, Iran decided to send missiles against the whole area of Israel. A couple of hours before the missile attack, two Hamas terrorists from Hebron murdered seven innocent people who took public transportation. Between those people was a son and nephew of family friends who went to take some photos for his final paper for his architect degree from the University of Tel-Aviv. He got shot by the terrorists four times as they were getting off the tramp in Jaffa.
Today was his funeral—a beautiful angel who only started his life. As you can understand, my family didn't have the mental capacity to celebrate. Because of this situation, my reading is a little slower, but I will do my best to read my book to meet this reading challenge. Also, next Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon, it is Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), when we fast without food and water for 27 hours. During those 27 hours, I will not be on Goodreads. I will post my selection, most probably on Sunday.
Sorry for the long and depressing message; let's hope for better & peaceful days worldwide.

So so sorry to hear that! My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please take all the time you need.

MountainKat | 31763 comments Avaigail, my sincere condolences to you and yours. Take whatever time you need to grieve. And I join you in hoping for peace worldwide.

We are just at the beginning of this challenge, there is plenty of time to catch up if you need to later on. There are only two things you need to keep in mind - your selections need to be made before the next theme is called (so you have a week for that) and you can't fall more than two weeks behind.

Take care of yourself, that matters more than this challenge.

Reread October 6, 2024
This was even more wonderful than I remembered! After reading book 2 in the series and seeing that book 3 is about to come out, I wanted to reread the first one - just because. Sweet and funny and very easy to read (listen to really). When real life makes it harder to focus, this author and her books will always work for me!

Well narrated by Michael Dean too!

Avigail (avigailr) | 666 comments Completion Post- Week #1

Option 2 - Key date: 5. April 2024. Teammate read on or after this date and rated at least 3 stars

Got Me Hoping (Vet Shop Boys, #1) by Casey Cox

Book:
Got Me Hoping by Casey Cox
Pages: 238 pages, Kindle Edition
Qualifies: MountainKat read the book on June 7, 2024 & gave 4 stars
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Date Read: 10/10/24
Review: Got Me Hoping is a book if you enjoy lighthearted, humorous, and hopeful romances with a touch of kink and a strong focus on relationships. I enjoyed Noah's communication with Haze; they were open to discussing anything and finding solutions for their problems. I haven't read many MM romances, and even though there are a lot of open-door scenes and some of them explicit, it was too much for me. I am not a prude; I had the same feelings with Icebreaker by Hannah Grace, Even though the characters in Got Me Hoping are older in their 30s. On the other hand, I appreciate that Casey Cox didn't have a third-act break-up between Haze & Noah.
I also appreciated the humor of the main and secondary characters. There were many heartwarming moments, and of course, there was a happily ever after.

The Homecoming
Star Rating: 4
Review:
I have mixed feelings about Iris and Seth’s story.
On one hand, I totally sympathized with Iris and felt Seth was callus in the way he treated their friendship. But, on the other hand, Iris needed to own her part of the whole fiasco. For being besties, their communication skills were truly lacking. I enjoyed the story more once they moved past their unfortunate past.

message 94: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31763 comments I've updated the tracking. There are still a few completions from Week 1 outstanding, but not a problem yet especially since there has been communication. 😊

I try to post tracking updates at least once a week. That way we all know where things stand. I am never trying to guilt trip anyone! If I point out you are missing a selection or completion post, it is just a friendly reminder. Or you can let me know if I've missed something, because that happens too. And honestly, how many of us have typed up a message and forgotten to hit post?! (Way more times that I want to admit!)

I usually post some tips I've learned over the many rounds I've participated in this challenge, but never got around to it this time. Better late than never right?!

I strongly recommend you at the very least start your book early in the week!! You can only change your book during the week a theme is called. Once the next theme is announced, you are stuck with your selected book. I've seen people struggle with a book that they are not enjoying because they couldn't change it. Don't put yourself in that position.

Don't copy a previous post. It is best to start with a blank template for your selection and completion posts to avoid copy and paste errors. They happen to all of us! And remember to follow the format in message #3.

Communication is key. Please let us know if you are going to be away or not have connectivity. If we or Jane knows about some difficulty, adjustments and exceptions can be made. But only if we know.

Please help by double checking teammate's selection and completion posts for accuracy and completion. This is especially helpful in the last week when Jane won't be asking for corrections! We all make errors sometimes. And they can be easy to miss - help is always welcome!

And last but certainly not least - make sure you have notifications turned on for this thread and the Q&A thread!! You need to manually check the 'notify me...' box now. Jane will post the theme calls in the Q&A thread each week. I will copy them here, but am not always home on Fridays. So, if corrections are needed you need notifications on so you know about the request. You are free to ask questions here and I will try to answer, but sometimes it is best to get Jane's opinion and you would need to do that in the Q&A thread. She will respond there and that is why you need notifications on for that thread too.

Jane (PS) | 24338 comments Hi everyone - SexyLadi (Lillian) has had to pull out of the challenge, with great regret.

You will not be able to use SexyLadi's bookshelves for Option 2 from now on...

Enjoy the rest of the game!

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1086 comments MountainKat wrote: "Looks like Danielle and I will be swapping shelves for Option 2 again this week! 😂"

Yeah I read predominately M/M which doesn't give a lot of options since most people on this team read more M/F than M/M so I have a feeling I will be using your shelf a lot if I'm using Option 2 :)

PTP 1: Sourdough originated in Egypt and spread through Europe
* Read a book set in Africa or Europe.
A Wedding One Christmas by Therese Beharrie
A Wedding One Christmas
Number of pages: 223 per GR
How the book qualifies: Story is set in South Africa.
From precis on GR: Of all the weddings in all the world, Angie Roux had to be mistaken for a bridesmaid in this one.
Caledon, South Africa, is supposed to be just a stop on the way to Christmas in Cape Town, part of Angie’s long-avoided homecoming. She never expected to star in a bizarre comedy of errors, but here she convincing a handsome stranger to be her fake boyfriend for the day.

message 99: by Avigail (new)

Avigail (avigailr) | 666 comments I have a question if you remember from previous rounds. Can we read non-fiction, like memoirs for the challenges. I am asking because I have a memoir that fits the first option. If it is only fiction I have another book on my mind that will fulfill other reading challenges as well.

No Stone Unturned
Read: 10/14
Rating: 3 stars
Review: It took a while to get into the story. The first 10-15 chapters are simply frustrating. Took me back to when I read Game of thrones lol, every nice character suffers for being nice. I think the mystery component was alright, but some parts were very repetitive. Lucy repeats the story of her husband's betrayal, in detail, to at least 4 characters! All that being said, I'm very curious to find out what happens between Phin and Lucy. So I will be reading the second book.
