hi guys!! i have a question. so i just re-read one of my fav books ever, but the thing is: i don't like adding rereads to my 2024 reading challenge bcs for me it js seems "unfair" of sorts to add a reread to a reading goal where im supposed to be reading new books. so obviously it isn't marked as 'read twice' on grs, but since i finished rereading it today, i was wondering - can i log it into the reading challenge? or would that not count?
rereads can most definitely be counted in the reading challenge alms girly, it's even an RAB prompt, but at the end of the day its up to you if you want to log it! 💕

⚰️who was your favourite character+why?
my favourite character was probably mariana, i felt so bad for her throughout the whole book and her grief was so immense that i couldn't help but empathize with her. she went through so much throughout the whole book yet she still remained strong for the people who needed her most. (+9)
⚰️who was your least favourite character + why?
probably edward fosca and henry. edward fosca was just too smug for my liking, ALSO he eats his meat RARE. RARE!!! there was literally blood pooling on the plate he was eating from and it was so disgusting. also hate henry because he's such a creep and he's proud of it!! (+9)
⚰️my favourite thing about the book was the fact it was set in such a lovely town in cambridge and how the gruesome and grizzly murders were juxtaposed against the backdrop of the idyllic setting and breathtaking architecture if cambridge. also cause i'm from the uk and it's been a while since i've read a good book set in england (+9)
⚰️what would you change about the book + why?
i would probably change the ending, i wish we would've gotten a chance to unpick the mind of the killer and see what truly made them commit those crimes. i feel it wasn't a truly satisfying ending and if that was incorporated into the ending i definitely would've boosted it about half a star. i feel we got the back stories of all the people i didn't care too much about. oh my gosh. oh my gosh this was crazy. in the best way ever, though. i went into this COMPLETELY blind and what i was met with left me completely shocked. there is SO much for me to tell you but there is so much going on in my head right now so it'll have to wait till my actual review. but this is the FIRST, and i'm not kidding, book that made me laugh. out. loud. i was literally sitting on the couch laughing. and i couldn't stop. do with that what you will. it's a masterpiece, and i fear no other second chance romance will ever rival it.

⚰️ who was your favorite character? Why?
Gus, he was so sweet and funny. He had such a nice view of life and his sickness, he was truly a beacon to everyone in his life. The way I sobbed when he passed was truly insane. He is my n1 book boyfriend.
⚰️ what was your favorite thing about the book? Why?
The fact that they weren’t only their sickness. From someone who has lost many people from cancer, it is truly devastating to see the life of these people slowly leave their body, it is like they have no soul. I’m happy that in this book, while they do go through strong emotions, they never lose their sense and soul.
⚰️ what would you change about the book? Why?
My baby Gus would NOT die. I sobbed all throughout his memorial and like 2 hours afterwards, his death was very much needed for the plot but it deeply hurt me to my core.
⚰️ what character would you most like to spend a rainy fall day with? Why?
Definitely Gus, I feel like he would make me laugh like no one else and he would probably like to go to a cafe and read which I adore. Also Isaac could be a choice but I’d prefer Gus as he could be calmer and just chill and relax for a while with him.

Don Quijote was definitely my favorite character in the book, he was an idealist and he truly just wanted to see the good in life. I kept imagining my father and it just made me love him all the more. He is a dreamer and he unconciously helped so many people. Truly a nice character.

personal review (+8): i'm loving the whole harry potter series so far and this book was no exception! i'm so sad it's almost coming to an end though, and this book was harry's last year at hogwarts. the ending of this one almost made me cry--why do we have to be lose so many of the best characters? 🥺 but i still adored this book nonetheless--all the buried secrets being revealed to harry, the dark histories... but also seeing all the characters, their development, and their relationships, old and new :)

⚰️ who was your favorite character? Why?
percy, duh. he's probably one of my favourite characters of all time to be honest. i just love how loyal, brave, and snarky he is and how much he cares for everyone that he loves. although annabeth comes at a close second. also, seeing all these familiar characters grow up to a similar stage in life where i am is so comforting, because it makes me feel like i'm not alone :')
⚰️ what was your favorite thing about the book? Why?
i loved being back on quests with the original trio, percy, annabeth, and grover! their friendship was my favourite part of this book. they're honestly some of my comfort characters. i love them so much because no matter how many challenges they face together, they always have each others' backs!
⚰️ what character would you most like to protect you from vampires? Why?
probably percy, because after all the monsters and gods he's defeated, i'm sure that some vampires wouldn't be too much of a challenge for him at this point. and i mean, he can control the sea and he has a magical pen named riptide that transforms into a sword to help him out, so 🤷🏻♀️

i'll say annabeth for this one to switch it up hehe. i love this girl so much, she's my role model at this point. i loved seeing her acing it at her design school and doing what she loved. also, when she was trying to take on the burden of the torches on her own and percy stepped in to help her, that was such a sweet moment--percabeth for life 🫶🏻
⚰️ what was your favorite thing about the book? Why?
i'd have to say probably the spooky vibes! this book took place near halloween and well, it's halloween tonight too, so that matched up pretty perfectly. the book was set in Hecate's creepy house, and our demigod protagonists have to take care of her hellhound and polecat, so i also loved that and thought it was fun.
⚰️ what would you change about the book? Why?
i wish we got to see a little more of mrs. o'leary, percy's hellhound friend. we did get a glimpse of her, which was great because i missed her, but i kind of wish we got a bit more and that she was more involved in the story, but that's okay
⚰️ what character would you most like to carve a pumpkin with? Why?
i'd pick annabeth as my pumpkin-carving partner, because with her architecture skills, i just know she'd come up with something amazing and creative. or honestly, if i picked percy, we could just paint the whole pumpkin blue or something and that would be cool too haha
⚰️ what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?
i really liked the quote "I knew I was where I belonged, and even if we moved across the country, Annabeth and I would always have a home here. We wouldn't be leaving anything behind. We'd just be spreading out our branches."
i found this quote really comforting, because i was thinking that maybe someday, that would be me moving away to college or whatever it may be. but it reminded me that no matter what happens in life or whichever place i end up, i will always know where i come from, where my roots belong :)

I have so much to say about this book, but i'll just highlight the key things! vivian did NOT have a personality and she reminded me of a toilet towel im sorry. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON DANTE RUSSO. that guy was a REAL piece of work mfg. Like why was he so against ppl, and like the hate against vivian wearing tweed and pearls was actually crazy. All in all, not my thing, and there were some scenes from the book that were good, the rest were just meh. tbh i loved the cover though!

Definitely like some parts of it, such as the miscommunication, i HATE that trope w my whole life, its like YOU as a reader KNOW whats going on, but the characters don't hence the eventual disagreements fights etc. The ending was okay, bittersweet but okay, maybe like idk bro, there were just stuff MISSING from the book, and i hated dante so much.

i read this today for english since i had to choose from the 'box of books' and since i had forgetten 'the atlas complex' at home i went ahead w this! this was a classic, and so ii was easily transported into the scenes and it low-key was cute and fun to read! some parts were slightly boring hence the three stars but im glad i had picked this book up!

Its been a couple of months since I read shatter me BUT OMGGG I'm so excited to read the rest of the series!! Definitely Warner pining after Juliette and his reaction to finding her diary. I think you can really see the start of his ACTUAL interest in Juliette and how he cares more than he had previously thought, Warners character was explored more too, which is great.

Again, what Warners father did to him, idc if he's the supreme commander, he DOESNT deserve to be Warners father and honestly? It's just disgusting and it's not even the worst thing I've read but like I just hate how much this happens irl too.

Nothing bro, it was concise and to the point, it contained humour and Warner, it also had a plot unlike some novellas, it honestly had everything I wanted/expected in it and I love that about it! Warners relationship with Juliette long distance is slowly starting to be seen and that was shown in this novella I can't wait to see where it goes where it all goes with this!

There are literally so many but this is one of them: I've come to believe that the most dangerous man in the world is the one who feels no remorse. The one who never apologizes and therefore seeks no forgiveness. Because in the end it is our emotions that make us week, not our actions. It's just so beautiful and frightening too, it also shows how real it is too.

Grim. Omg he was everything in this book, he was so sweet and he was the perfect amount of morally gray. I loved to get to know how his devotion to Isla started. He truly loves her so much, favorite fantasy book boyfriend.

Definitely Cleo, like in the last book I understand her actions and her character but in this book I truly hated her and the way she so blatantly lied and backstabbed isla. I know she wants to bring back her son but honestly I don’t care she was too much.

The flashbacks of Grim and Isla were absolutely my favorite thing in this book. I literally counted the pages till the next one cause I was just so invested. If I reread it will probably just be those chapters.

Isla trying to force Oro into intimacy, I get that he wanted her too but she literally just kept throwing herself at him even after he said he wanted to wait. It just seemed as a way to prove she didn’t want Grim anymore which I hated.

RH isn't really my go to fav trope but nonetheless I enjoyed this book!! It was light hearted but contained enough of a plot to make it interesting and the fact that there weren't MANY guys included by the end of the book made it better, thank goodness, ifykyk, but overall not a bad experience!

Definitely add more action with the plot of the story, like other than the boys and chuck, the whole killer thing seemed like a joke ngl and it was pretty funny to me ngl, the ending was cool though but also slightly more or less predictable which I would want changed in the book.

There were little to no options bro, but maybe this one, it explores the need for success in life: You can do it first, or you can do it best, and when someone else does it first and best, you'd best just stay in your own lane.
