I can understand that. Judy built Scottie up so much. I thought Scottie was a little strange as well.
Faye wrote: "But I am very sympathetic to what Scottie is coping with."Yes, Scottie's life has gone downhill since she was last with Judy while Judy has experienced the opposite.

So true! I hate that.

Judy watches for the beggar to come and after Scottie lies down he finally does. Judy calls to him and he comes and plays music to them on the porch steps. Carol is very close to him and keeps time with her feet, her eyes sparkle. The beggar pats her head and says “Like gold”. “It’s softer,” Judy replies and all of a sudden she didn’t want the beggar to be the thief. But a gleam came into his eyes and his hands reminded her of claws. He wasn’t looking at Carol but at the locket. She held it out and smiled. Judy didn’t see what happened after that. While the beggar was playing, Scottie woke up and rushed to the old accordion player. She said something to him- a whispered something like she knew him and they shared some secret, but the old man looked up with faded blue eyes that held no hint of recognition. Scottie backed away embarrassed and apologized saying she walks in her sleep sometimes. He says to think nothing of it, is sorry to hear that Carol doesn’t speak and asks if they have a penny to put in an old man’s hat. They give him several coins and Carol seems to like hearing them clink together.
Judy tells Scottie that he is the man who sold her the dream book and they decide to work on the coded note. Scottie notices that there aren’t any spaces and Judy seeing Scottie acting bright eyed and interested, wants her friends to see her that way too. “Two heads are better than one and ten heads are better than two. Why not have a party?” Judy decides. (I like that thinking!)
