Drace (dracenines) | 7367 comments So, as detailed in a recent thread I made to let the librarians know about the issue, the Goodreads bot has decided to invent a new and spectacular way to screw the site up: merging Kindle and ebook editions. I sent a bug report in to staff to let them know about the bot’s newest method of running rampant as well as books that it did its thing to, and they removed the ISBNs from the Kindle editions that they merged. As a result, there are ebook editions that need to be restored.

My question is: is it possible to simply restore the editions that the bot deleted, or am I going to need to get a thread going with a list of editions that need to be manually re-added to the site?

Renske | 12219 comments If there is no longer an ISBN on the deleted edition there is no simple way to access to the edition and therefore no easy way to restore the edition. Unless someone knows a trick I'm not familiar with.

Also, when an edition has been deleted and it is reverted, not all of the original book data is kept, so it is the question if it has much advantage in these cases.

Drace (dracenines) | 7367 comments Got it. Sounds like the long and short of it is they need to be manually restored. I'll work on getting that thread up.

Tami (tamicarvallo) | 6987 comments If you have the link to the edition without ISBN or ASIN and the deletion wasn't done too long ago, the deletion can be reverted. If it was too long ago, I always get an error and can't access the book edit page. I don't know if that's a bug because, with the new status system, deletions are not supposed to be permanent, but I've encountered many cases where they are because one cannot access the book edit page to revert it.

Drace (dracenines) | 7367 comments I can't link to the editions because they were deleted, but I did include a list of the books on my shelves that the bot messed up when I made a thread to let other librarians know about the bug. These links go to the Kindle editions of the books, but the log of the bot merging the ebooks with the Kindle editions is there. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I also made a thread in the Projects folder to restore the deleted editions: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
