The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie – 4 Stars

This was a heart-breaking book that is a social commentary on the life of Junior, a Native American boy who is trying to forge his own path in life by leaving his school on the Spokane Indian Reservation and joining an all-white high school. I really liked Junior as a character, but I also really felt for him as well. What shocked me was the vitriol he and his family faced from others on the Reservation because of his choice. This book would be a good book for a book club read, as there would be a lot to discuss about friendship and compassion, as well as south doubt.
