Hi Jewelee - yes. But you need to read it from the beginning :)

To everyone and to clarify - any shelf works (eg wishlist, to read, currently reading etc) but you must have added it more than 12 months ago.

This was better than I thought it was going to be. I was so ready to be upset by the story because I thought it was over and there all these questions that still needed to be answered!

And then story went on for another few chapters! It helped answer a lot of those questions that I had. I enjoyed the story and all the background that we got. I liked all the characters too.

I've never read anything by this author, but I am very interested in continuing on with the series!

I have enjoyed this series a lot and this one is no exception. I like the banter and wit between the MCs (this is usually my jam!). I agreed with Olivia that Max was almost too good to be true because even his flaws were endearing. However, once we ran into conflict, I liked how he stepped up even though he was clueless on how to do it. His best quality is his willingness to own his mistakes and work like hell to fix them - and to lean on others when he needs to.

It's hard to talk about a book I read a week ago, but I can say that I still remember passages from it. Like many other romantic books, sometimes certain scenes seem pulled by the hair by putting mistrust in the middle between the main characters. It left me wanting to read the other 2 books.

Danielle Allen has done it again ! I love this friends to lovers romance. Her characters are so perfectly flawed. Her stories just draw me in. And this one is no different. Aaliyah, Ahmad, and all the characters melded perfectly together to bring this story to life.

Aaliyah and Ahmad were so perfect for each other, I couldn’t stand it. My frustration throughout the book that these two weren’t together sooner sometimes took me away from the story. But Miss Allen took us on a journey that in the end was so perfectly drawn out that I kicked myself for wanting to rush the story.

I love the way that it ended. I’m usually one of those girls that is dying to get the epilogue. But this one was kind of a nontraditional ending that was perfect for this nontraditional romance.

Danielle Allen is one of those authors that I found by accident. And ever since I’ve discovered her, she hasn’t disappointed. I’m looking forward to reading more books in the series.

Review:
I loved this one set in St. Petersburg, 1725 during Peter the Great's era and Catherine, his wife. Two polar opposites in society as she was born very poor, Catherine used her womanly wiles to earn her way to her heart's desires. But Peter was a terribly cruel man and Tsar. After his death, Catherine used her brain and beauty to do the unthinkable in her day and age...she gained POWER unlike any other Russian woman of her time.

I really liked this one a lot! It's set in Rusk University so the MC's are young adults but adults. I loved Dallas who is very transparent and says it like it is. Her father is a Texas football coach who ends up coaching the football team at RU. So things get complicated after they are falling for each other but then he discovers she's Coach's daughter and that's a no-no for him or he can get kicked off the team. And her ex was a football player and a jerk, so she's sworn off dating football players. Naturally, they begin to fight their feelings and vacillating what to do with those feelings. I loved it.

This was a bit of a May-December romance with the female MC being on the May side of the equation. She was an interesting combination of brass confidence and insecurities. Understandable insecurities so it wasn't annoying. I liked how he treated her - letting her know how awesome he thought she was but also not letting her get away with being down on herself. I really enjoyed seeing this relationship develop. A couple of not-so-surprising surprise twists but overall a nice feel good story.

Week #9 - Option 1
Renegades (Renegades, #1) by Marissa Meyer
Read: 12/07/24
Rating: 3 stars

Review:
This reminded me of a watered down YA version of The Boys (which I love!). I sort of missed the blatant and shocking violence associated with the show but it was fun enough. I picked this up solely because I loved Marissa Meyer's Cinder Chronicles and didn't really know anything else about it.

So there are the Renegades and the Anarchists - sort of wish the "villains" (latter group) were better named, like more bad-ass or something, but it is what it is. I liked that their intended roles are put into question - are the Renegades really the good guys and the Anarchists the bad?

Our heroine, Nova, was a bit of a bad-ass. I really liked her, and her backstory was so sad. But I wish that she had better super powers. I felt a little underwhelmed by it, especially when she infiltrated the Renegades and had to hide it so they didn't figure out who she really was.

Actually I think I felt underwhelmed by most of what happened in this story. Hence the 3 star rating. But I do think I'll go on to the next one just to see if it improves or catches more of my attention.

Review: How is it possible that this one was even better than Butcher? More importantly, how is it possible that books with main characters who are serial sorry, Lark is very clear that she is a multiple deleter, not a serial killer. Anyway, how is it possible that these main characters are likable?

I thought the main baddie in this one wasn't very well developed, either as a character or in regards to his motivation. But Lark and Lachlan were so perfect that that was easy to overlook. And the audio is very well done!

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 152 comments I live right outside of Charleston in Summerville. Sad to say that in the 3 years I've lived here, haven't really ventured out and seen things. But doesn't help that I have to fly for 1 week each month to LA and I'm not young anymore. In my 20s and 30s, it wouldn't have been a problem. But now in my 40s, and doing it for 3 years, it's gotten tiring. Especially on my body due to my sleep schedule getting jacked up so much. I will attempt for the 3rd time to resign some time this year. But we'll see :P

I can't believe we're almost to the end! Where has the time gone?! I usually try to find a short one for last week but I only started my week 10 book last night so don't think I'll be able to speed thru them. Work is too busy today. But I can try to push tomorrow (which will probably be too late for the 1st place win).

But I've had fun with you all!
