Samantha | 1567 comments My short book was just over 200 pages so won't be a fit for the math tab. I put it under the nature prompt for science - my other book will fit the animal or plant prompt if I can ever finish it.

Katherine | 231 comments @ Emily Awesome for the D in Art-- I am sure that's what I would get! :-)

@Edie Glad you had a weather event, because the book I was sure was going to have a weather event, doesn't actually have one-- so I can use it for a different prompt!

If we don't have another thing for an under 200 page book, I am sure that I will finish my class read aloud tomorrow, that is <200. :(if that counts!)

Denise | 524 comments My current read...Wide Sargasso Sea...is under 200 pages

message 54: by Katherine (last edited Sep 19, 2024 11:10PM) (new)

Katherine | 231 comments Great, Denise! Then we can use that one for the <200 prompt.

Who would have guessed that our first A would be in Math, and that we would still be at an F for literature haha!

message 56: by Denise (last edited Sep 20, 2024 10:48AM) (new)

Denise | 524 comments I actually teach history and geography for a living so I'm glad to see we made some progress there.

If only all the reading done on my students' assignments this week counted.....

message 57: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 231 comments Ha ha! If only the pages of the community schools grant I've been close reading all week counted as well!

My school just got one of those! I'm not exactly sure what it is but we just hired someone wth that grant money

Denise | 524 comments I used Wide Sargasso Sea for a retelling so we have two literature books, but we can move it to published more then 50 years ago if needed.

I have a lot of books to choose from for the weekend, let me know if there is a particular prompt that to be worked on.

I think I'd rather us be a C student across the board than having As and Fs, so I'd say if you're picking books, aim for either Literature or Art so we can get those to C level.

Katherine | 231 comments It was a slow reading day for me yesterday, but I was able to finish Bad Cree by Jessica Johns this morning. I put it in science (plant on the cover--due to all the trees). I have some shorter and/or quicker paced books set up for this weekend. After a crazy week, I am looking forward to curling up on my couch and reading for the bulk of the day.

Samantha | 1567 comments Slow reading for me as well, I am still working my way through Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop. It is a translated book and I am enjoying and amazed how descriptive it is. A very pleasant book but not to an exciting page turner I would want for a read- a- thon.

I started The Night We Lost Him last night. That is going well and I will add to the spreadsheet when I get on my computer in a bit.

message 63: by Denise (new)

Denise | 524 comments I can finish Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century (title with 5+ words) (red yellow and blue on cover) then use it for art or literature, whichever is more pressing when I finish

message 64: by Samantha (last edited Sep 21, 2024 02:59PM) (new)

Samantha | 1567 comments I finally finished Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop. I can put it under literature of A book that has been translated into English which my be hard to fill or I can use it for A book with an animal on the cover and we can get the A in science.

I wasn't sure if we were more excited with get more C's or A's.

message 65: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 231 comments I have an animal on the cover book that will be finished by tomorrow. So I’d recommend the translated book!

Absolutely go with the translated prompt!

message 67: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1567 comments Katherine, that sound perfect! It looks like you or someone else update the spreadsheet - thanks!

message 68: by Denise (new)

Denise | 524 comments I’ll use lesser known monsters for Art then. I can’t see the art tab of the spreadsheet from my phone…..I can finish a book with either illustrations or egot I just nees to access the spreadsheet to see which one we need

message 69: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 176 comments I'm reading The President and the Frog which I'm planning to finish either today or tomorrow for the historical fiction prompt. After that, I'll just be reading for pencils.

message 70: by Denise (new)

Denise | 524 comments I put Lesser Known Monsters under literature...5+ word title.

I have about 150 pages left in Eats Shoots and Leaves which is EGOT for art that I think I can finish by tomorrow. It also has animals on the cover

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
I added One Dark Window as the EGOT prompt!

If y'all are also doing the individual challenge, don't forget to post your completion today!

message 72: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Way to go team! Our report card is looking much more respectable now. I should finish one book today...not sure where it will fit but it will add pages.
Is it just me, pencils seemed pretty tough to qualify for?

message 73: by Denise (new)

Denise | 524 comments I moved What You Are Looking For Is In The Library to the book about books category, and used Eats, Shoots and Leaves for the book featuring a writer, etc.

Unless I get some pages in later for pencils this is all I can do, I need to get some papers graded and lessons planned today

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
The pencils had the same criteria as last read-a-thon, but we had less members per team. I made 6 teams thinking we would have an influx of people joining late (as we typically do), but we didn't have as many this time around. Definitely made it harder to qualify for pencils with less people reading/listening.

message 75: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 231 comments I'm about 100 pages out from finishing my book with an animal on the cover, and I'll definitely finish that one so Science will be complete as well.

I moved two of our pencils to Literature-- because we HAVE to get an A there! We have 2 pencils left, and most likely will get one more today, which will let us finish Science AND History.

We've done well for a small team! Yay!

message 76: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
I just added the 2 available pencils to History, since we've finished that one as well!

message 77: by Samantha (last edited Sep 22, 2024 11:19AM) (new)

Samantha | 1567 comments I finished The Night We Lost Him. The main character is an Architect and she refers to herself as an artist at least once. I feel like Architect is a hybrid career with there being design, math and engineering. I guess I am not sure if it would count for A book featuring a protagonist who has a career in the arts.

I started another book so will add pages read later or tomorrow once I know my grand total for the day.

message 78: by Andrea (last edited Sep 22, 2024 10:54PM) (new)

Andrea | 176 comments I finished Rejection: Fiction last night and moved some of my completed books around so we could get all the prompts completed!

-Rejection for multiple points of view
-The Most from multiple points of view -> less than 200 pages
-Untouchable from less than 200 pages -> historical figure (Gandhi makes an appearance!)
-Twilight Zone from historical figure -> southern hemisphere
-La aventura... from southern hemisphere -> arts career (protagonist is a film director)

Thanks for a great read-a-thon! I really enjoyed reading alongside you guys and discovering some hidden gems!

Thanks Andrea! How fun to see all As (even if we didn't have the pencils for it lol)

message 80: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 231 comments Thanks everyone! This was fun. :-) For the last two subjects, I say we took them Pass/No Pass-- so we were successful!

message 81: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1567 comments It was nice reading with everyone! Katherine- pass/no pass sounds perfect :)

message 82: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Thanks Emily and way to go team. That's report card a parent can be proud of.
