Mark Lawrence wrote Red Sister, Grey Sister & Holy Sister all set in the world of Abeth. Then in his next trilogy prequel set in this world (The Girl and the Stars, The Girl and the Mountain, The Girl and the Moon) you suddenly realize that everything you thought was "fantasy"--every fantastical element from the first trilogy--is actually science fiction from a very advanced society which has since died out too long ago for the people of Abeth to remember the science. So instead it only survives ideologically as "magic."

This just blew my mind. I was in absolute shock. Those 6 books are absolutely incredible fantasies btw. I strongly recommend them all. Mark Lawrence is a genius.

I really really loved blood over bright haven - the book is quite intense, so you may want to look up trigger warnings, but to me it was the most shocking, interesting read maybe....ever?
