New edition leave out numbers?

Hi, I understand I need to create a new edition with the new cover and link the books. But when I did this Goodreads wouldn't let me use the same ASIN number because it had already been used. So do I create the new edition without an ASIN? It's an update to an ebook cover.

If the ISBN/ASIN remains the same you should add an Alternate Cover Edition (ACE) not new edition, this will transfer the number to more recent edition.
