Edit my coer & books

I have a place holder as my cover, now I want to replace it with the correct cover and It's telling me I need a librarian. If I have editing access, so why can't I perform this simple function for myself??

What needs to happen for me to get this done?

Librarians don't make the rules, you would need to ask staff why you are not allowed to edit that.
You can request librarian assistance here, give a link to the relevant edition of the book and an acceptable source for the final cover image and we can help.

The reason is that authors would be deleting old real covers and putting new ones in their places.
