This book follows Kit along her journey as a caregiver at a creepy old mansion sitting (quite literally) on the edge of a cliff.

The gothic-style writing is stunning and this one has plot twists upon plot twists upon plot twists...

I really loved this book but the detective really p!ssed me off, just do your job? How can you say that every death is a suicide and just hang up the phone- he made me want to throw the book at a wall.

***SPOILERS***
I have a few points for when people have finished this one. I absolutely loved it and gave it 4.5, an easy read thriller with a creepy gothic house slowly falling off a cliff is the most peerrrfect setting. I also love how it flips between the Hope family 50 years ago to Kits current life, and the parallels between them.

What did everyone think of the ending ?
This was a five star book for me right up to the ending…I didn’t dislike the ending but it irritates me when a thriller ending feels like it was pulled out of thin air a little bit and a bit too far fetched.
(view spoiler)

what did everyone think of the main character?
There are a few people that didn’t like Kit too much, however I thought she was a strong character.

Dylan Edgar | 1 comments I really enjoyed this book for the most part, definitely a page turner. For the majority of the story I was wrapped up in wanting to know what happened- but I have to say I found the ending overdone and unsatisfying, too many twists it made it a-bit silly for me. Characters were okay, I think Kit was a decent main character with the back story but nothing too exciting.
I agree that the detective was useless and a bit annoying.
Also did I miss something but weird coincidence that her dad was the killer and she happened to get a job there?

At the end of the day it did what I’d want from a book like this, a good spooky mystery page turner. I’d give it a 3.9/

Haley | 33 comments I just finished this and absolutely loved every second including the ending. None of it was predictable and while the ending was far fetched, I tend to not think too deeply and just enjoy the ride. I loved kits character development and everything in between. The only part I didn’t like what the detective, every time he was brought into the story I got irritated.

Yep that detective was SOOO useless - our girl Kit was literally doing his job for him

Haley | 33 comments Exactly 🤣🤣 and he’s just like nope nope nope. I thought he was in on something somehow until I realized he was literally worthless.

Review: I listened to the audiobook of this. It was a long one for sure but totally worth it to get to the end. I was initially hesitant to start, worried it would be more horror than thriller but it's not. It had just the right amount of thrill. The story had the perfect timeline and pace and, as long as it was, it was an easy listen with every detail being important to the overall storyline. I LOVE a book with a twist and this one did not disappoint. There was way more to the story than I imagined and just when I thought it was over, there was another surprise twist! I thought the ending wrapped things up and gave good closure. Overall, if you like a good thriller, this is one to pick up!

pandapretzel | 5 comments Totally agree with you Haley. I try not to think too deeply about how realistic the twists are, it makes it more fun!

This was my first Riley Sager novel and I loved it! This is exactly the type of thriller I like--crazy twists everywhere. I liked Kit too, I felt bad for her and related to her a bit. I liked the ending because the whole time we were speculating if Lenora was faking her paralysis and towards the end with the big twist I thought oh okay so she wasn't faking it but then it was like sike she actually is. So I liked that back and forth on that point a lot.

I mentioned this is in my review too, but I liked that the story was set in the 50s and 80s because I felt like it made some parts much more realistic.
