Shivers

Shivers is a sadistic, twisted, and relentless killer. His costume is grim and tattered making him look demonic. His wild messy hair, bloodshot eyes, and twisted smile create a chilling look that emphasizes his malevolence. He relies on his menacing presence and brutal violence to terrorize his victims. He is very straightforward in his evil. He is obsessed with causing pain to those who fear him. He stalks people afraid of clowns and uses their fears against them. It is their fear which attracts him.

Complete the following tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books with a character that has messy hair (your interpretation)
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a stalker
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books with the author's initials in FEAR
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books that starts with a letter in DEMONIC (team must pick one letter)

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments Did you know, including Shivers, we have only 3 clowns left!?

I'm still looking for something that fits Arm 2 but I had a book that worked for Leg 1 and need to read on that fits Arm 2. I have both a D and a C, I can use for Demonic (Leg 2)

Almost there! I hope those last clowns are easy, lol.

I think C might be easier but I can read for C or D no problem, I don't have anything banked.

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments I miss read Leg 1 - my book only had one initial. Luckily I have a book to read for one of my other challenges that does!

I have both a C and a D read - but my C would also work for messy hair... I won't get to my current pick for messy hair book for a little while. That being said, lets see what Tru has.

Truitt_T | 1371 comments Greeetings, all!

Sorry I've been AWOL a bit - I'll get on this right now. :)

Either C or D works for me. If you don't care, Kari, then why don't we go with D so Teresa can use her C for messy hair.

I seem to recall a messy hair character, but now I'm going to have to figure out what book it was, lol.

It's hard to believe that we only have a few clowns to go! And TW ends tomorrow - It'll be odd to no longer feel that I have to read the shortest possible books.....

Tickles

Tickles the Clown also known as "The Mauler of Innocents" was once an ordinary man who performed as a clown for children's parties. A traumatic event triggered a psychotic breakdown and he gained infamy for abducting and murdering children in brutal and grotesque ways.
He targets not only children but anyone who crosses his path in a deranged need to "preserve" innocence by snuffing it out. He is a very cunning and deeply sadistic person. He takes pleasure in the fear & suffering of his victims. His version of "tickling" is more like torture. His personality is a mix of dark humor and psychopathy. He taunts his victims with mocking laughter and twisted jokes.
Tickles has a terrifying, demonic appearance with exaggerated black eye sockets, a jagged red mouth smeared with blood, and a cracked, grimy white face. His wild matted hair and worn costume just make him look unhinged. His maniacal grin adds to the menacing look that will haunt you long after he is gone.

Complete the following tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books with all the letters of TICKLES in the title/series
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a maniacal grin on the covers (your interpretation)
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books that haunt you (scary to you)
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books that start with a letter in MAULER (everyone can choose a letter of their choice)

Do you think a skull can grin?

Just checking in to see how this team is moving forward. Several teams are making changes in December. Some are planning to stop playing once the competitive challenge ends. Others are playing individually or in pairs (one person quits).

Just let me know if you are making any team changes.

I think that skull would work, Tru👍. It looks freaky. And maniacal grin is sort of subjective. I also found these two:
Santa Daddy, I'm Not the One by Gianni Holmes Speak and Obey by Ki Brightly
Would either of these work? I think I'd prefer the santa one.

We have this clown and one more, I'd love to finish the challenge if Teresa and Tru agree?!

I'd like to finish - we're almost done! I hope you're in, too, Teresa.

Kari - The Speak and Obey civer is definitely freaky. It counts.

The Santa cover is (I'm sure) unintentionally creepy. It just feels...off. As you say - maniacal is somewhat subjective. Go for ti!

Donna - thank you, again, for creating and running this challenge. How could we not want to finish? And we might manage to do it in November. :)

message 373: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments I'm in for finishing!

I tried getting the book you're using for Leg 1, Tru, but all copies are out at my library and they don't carry the ebook :(

I'm thinking of Something Wicked instead - the first two were definitely haunting and somewhat scary!

I've read the Necromancer book recently and really don't like the sound of the two Kari found, so I'm still searching for Arm 2...

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments What do you guys think of

Forsaken Fae Book One (Forsaken Fae #1) by R.A. Steffan
for grin? I know it's more of a smirk but it looks sinister/maniacal (its a long shot, I know)

or
Steal the Key (Wilde Contracts #2) by Maz Maddox
Which I do want to read but it's long and ends on a cliffhanger....

message 375: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments I think the smirk on the first cover looks a little crazed - go for it!

I cannot recommend On Tyrrany highly enough. I hope you get a chance to read it one of these days.

On the other hand, DO NOT read Trapped for Thanksgiving. It was terrible, lol.

message 376: by Kari (new)

Kari | 914 comments I agree, the smirk is maniacal enough, like my creepy santa, lol.

Jack

Jack is a demonic entity bound to a toy box. He uses the jack in the box as a vessel to claim souls. The cursed toy is both his prison and his method of hunting. Anyone who winds up the toy and releases him becomes his next target.
Jack's curse has a set of rules. He must claim six victims before he can return to his box. The person who opens the box is the final victim. He uses brutal violence and psychological manipulation to claim victims.
Jack is purely malevolent. He delights in the fear and suffering of his victims. He is patient and will slowly pursue his prey, appearing in & out of the box. He is cold & calculating each move, toying with victims and instilling them with fear before finally killing them.

Complete these tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books where a character goes hunting
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a 6 in the page count
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books with a character under a curse in the story
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a toy on the cover

message 394: by Kari (new)

Kari | 914 comments Any suggestions for toy on the cover?
Do you think some sports equipment would work, like a baseball bat or ball, which could be considered toys sometimes?

message 395: by Teresa (last edited Nov 30, 2024 04:19PM) (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments I would think a ball would be a toy...
