NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11060 comments I added this book to my tbr when I first joined Goodreads, and it was one of a handful still unread. It was recommended by a librarian who was also interested in psychology. I often get bored with police procedurals, but an interesting main character makes all the difference, Ian Rutledge, is a Scotland Yate Inspector who suffered from what we now know as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He is haunted by guilt over a decision to have a soldier executed for refusing to fight during WWI. After taking time off, he is once again working for Scotland Yard. He was referred to a no-win case by an ambitious colleague who sees him as expendable, and it is hitting too close to home. The case is threatening to harm his mental health as well as his career. The murder case itself wasn’t very interesting to me, but the story about the inspector was very good. He is haunted by visions of the dead soldier, whose observations add a lot of humor to the story. I’m interested in what happens in the rest of the series.

Booknblues | 12047 comments I was quite fond of this series, but it is one in which I lost my place and never picked back up.
