I just noticed that the first link doesn't work. Not sure how that happened.Anyway, here's the edition to be deleted: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
I have been here for a number of years and seen quite a number of faulty records, and I can't say I saw a case where someone used a valid ISBN13, plugged it into the ISBN10 field which "ate up" the last three digits, and then reused it as an ISBN13. Still, I fully agree with your analysis of the probable cause.Deletion done.
Please can this edition be deleted/moved https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...it has all the correct information (isbn publisher etc) but for some reason it is an edition of the 3rd sherlock holmes book when it is actually the 8th. So it needs to be moved to be an edition of this book instead https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (if that's possible sorry I'm not sure) or deleted and then I can add it as an edition of the 8th book and use the isbn. thank you :)

You are a librarian; you can separate the editions of His Last Bow (I see at least one other in the "other editions" section) and combine them with the proper work.
@David: Thanks for the deletion! 🙏🏼I have seen various cases of faulty ISBN10s that started with "978" which is how most (all?) ISBN13s start. Because the ISBN10 field is limited to 10 characters, the last 3 digits had been cut off.
That's why I suspect something of that sort must have happened.
Of course I haven't been there when this wrong, 10-digits-long ISBN13 was entered, so who knows what really happened!
Again, thanks for fixing this. 😀

It looks like someone used a valid ISBN13, plugged it into the ISBN10 field which "ate up" the last three digits, and then reused it as an ISBN13.
As a result, there is now a truncated ISBN13 with only 10 digits (and no ISBN10).
I suspect, this was supposed to be an entry for the edition with the ISBN13 9781250312839: https://www.goodreads.com/book/edit/4...
Thank you!
