We'll be reading Network Effect in April 2025.

This Challenge will allow those of us who have not read Murderbots Diaries 1-4 to catch up, or if you have read them to allow time for a refresh.

I'm creating a discussion folder for each of the first 4 books, to avoid massive spoilage. Feel free to discuss at your own pace. I'm certain most of you have read them already. (I haven't read them yet!)

This thread is for the group challenge discussion of Rogue Protocol, but you can add comments about Books 1 & 2 as well. Enjoy.

As before, I am really enjoying the Murderbot books so far.

In Rogue Protocol, our escaped SecUnit continues his journey to discover (uncover?) the truth about his past. He unintentionally befriends a human-form bot named Miki. Murderbot is fascinated (jealous?) of Miki's relationship with his human's. And of course, he can't stay hidden when trouble breaks out. Do you enjoy his thoughts? His programming vs free thinking?

My takeaway from this one has always been that after this one it becomes a bit more obvious about why humans are afraid of SecUnits. Murderbot lets loose a little bit in this one.

It is fun to look at Murderbot's reactions to Miki and Miki's friends and then interpret that reaction as an emotion.

This is my favorite of the first three novellas.

I really enjoyed this one too - Miki is a sweet little character and the contrast between Miki and Murderbot, and how she prompts him to think differently about humans, is very interesting and well done.

I did love Miki. And Murderbot's reactions to Miki. Seeing the possibilities.
