Epilogue

“Huh, such a long day,” thought Peak, queen of the skywings. “There is always so much stuff I have to fix, I hate you mother!” Queen Peak was just about to go to her room when she heard a knock on the palace door. She opened it, expecting a dragon wanting something. “Probably a beggar hoping to get a few coins,” thought Peak as she opened the door. But what was there was not a dragon, but an egg. A single egg, black as night, that was on its side that was then starting to roll towards the stairs outside the palace. Peak quickly grabbed it and brought it with her inside and went to the throne room. She sat on her throne and held the egg gently in her talons.

Suddenly it started turning white and the weather turned to a storm. She dropped the egg in fear and surprise. Peak didn't know what was happening, but she did know that this was not usual egg behavior, even for a nightwing egg. Just then, a hole in the skylight glass roof was blown apart with lighting, right above the egg, striking it while wind ripped though the room. Fires sprouted around the egg in a perfect circle and the earth seemed to push it up. The rain danced around the egg while it stood up straight. Everything seemed to be in chaos. Then suddenly, it stopped. Everything disappeared and all that was left was the egg, which was starting to hatch.

The dragonet pushed its way out of the shell and was not black, but red with random black scales all over his body. He immediately saw Peak and started crawling to her. Peak fell in love instantly and decided to adopt him. “Now only what to call you,” said Peak, watching her new son crawl on the floor. The storm had moved on from the palace and caught the dragonet’s attention with a mighty boom of thunder. He started trying to go to it, stumbling on the way to the door and started scratching it. “I know what to call you now,” said Peak, picking up the dragonet. “I’ll name you Stormchaser.”
