A fearless woman, raised in the forest, fights against a group of powerful men in a novel about good versus evil, the enduring nature of myth, and the power of love by #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz.

Raised in the wilderness by her late great-uncle, Vida is a young woman with an almost preternatural affinity for nature, especially for the wolves that also call the forested mountains home. Formed by hard experience, by love and loss, and by the prophecies of a fortune teller, Vida just wants peace. If only nearby Kettleton County didn’t cast such a dark shadow.

It’s where Jose Nochelobo, the love of Vida’s life and a cherished local hero, died in a tragic accident. That’s the official story, but Vida has reasons to doubt it. The truth can’t be contained for long. Nor can the hungry men of power in Kettleton who want something too: that Vida, like Jose, disappear forever. One by one they come for her, prepared to do anything to see their plans through to their evil end. Vida is no less prepared for them.

Vida, the forest, and its formidable wonders are waiting. She will not rest until goodness and order have been restored.

Jerry (jazzlsnr) | 55 comments Can’t wait; I haven’t been disappointed with Dean’s latest novels. Maybe he found these in a desk from the 80’s

Matthew | 183 comments Of all the books Dean has written since being publish by Amazon (the books that started with Quicksilver) I'd say my favorite is The Big Dark Sky. I think I'm in the minority here but I quite enjoyed The Other Emily as well. Hopefully Forest is a good one!

I guess I need to re-read The Big Dark Sky and The Other Emily at some point.
Overall, I haven't connected as well to the Thomas & Mercer titles compared to Random House. Life Expectancy, Relentless, False Memory, By the Light of the Moon, One Door Away From Heaven, Jane Hawk- some of my personal favorites.
The Other Emily in particular - I was rather disappointed on my initial reading, but someday I'll give it another try.

I'm old school, so waiting for a printed copy to arrive in the next week.

Matthew | 183 comments I'll read it it when it shows up at my library. Shouldn't take TOO long, I don't think. But waiting for it gives me time to finish the 900+ pages of the behemoth known as Troubled Blood.

Vonda (vondamikesell) | 50 comments Iam currently at 70% Reading and listening on audible, and it's great

I've got a hardcover copy now but want to finish up some other books I'm currently reading first.

Kateblue Have too many books in other groups right now. Maybe by the end of the month

Jerry (jazzlsnr) | 55 comments Just finished it… not his best, not his worst. A predictable story line, as is usual lately with Dean. Many passages where fewer words would’ve sufficed.

The Forest of Lost Souls is featured as a group read through end of December/ end of 2024. I might need that much time myself.

I am currently reading, but slowly. Up until now, Amazon has always offered audiobook on MP3 CD for their Thomas & Mercer Dean Koontz releases. I'm only on page 30, but I'll keep working on it, enjoying the story so far.

I'm rather liking the wordy descriptions, but we'll see if my contentment holds through the entire novel.

She has long been of the land. She's been formed by the truths of the wilderness, by the wonder and the myths that nature inspires, by hard experience, by love and loss, by the prophecy of a traveling seer in a white robe and yellow sneakers.
- The Forest of Lost Souls, Chapter 2: The Watcher in the Woods

On this Monday in May, as the sun slips from the sight, the western mountains are crowned with carnelian red. The darkling eastern sky is sapphire blue and diamonded.
- The Forest of Lost Souls, Chapter 7: The First Grave

Also, I really like the hardcover copy. A gold-embossed wolf on both front and back cover, trees/forest inside the covers, mystical circular artwork to introduce each of the three sections/parts. Most of the chapters are quite short, making "one more chapter" an easy accomplishment.

I haven't made much progress in the last couple of weeks, but I like what I've read so far.

I am almost finished with The Forest of Lost Souls. I really loved part one. Part two was a little rough for me. I'm currently reading part three.

I have been reading at work and have gotten lots of customer comments on the gold embossed wolf imprint (located on both front and back cover). Then I open the cover and show them the forest inside the cover. This book is a very impressive presentation.
