Drace (dracenines) | 7373 comments Not sure if this is the right folder for it, but I've gotten help with a similar shelving oddity issue before, so I thought it might be a good idea to ask.

For some reason, the book Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer is showing up at the top of my to-read shelf when sorting its books from oldest to newest by publication date. The book was originally published in 1997, and shows up as such on the shelf, but it also shows up earlier than books published in 1320 and 1796. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this error? I figured it's something in the metadata for the date that I can't see since I'm not a librarian, but I could be entirely wrong.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 2197 comments There has been quite a bit of work done on this title recently which could be causing the issues with the title on your shelves. The record itself looks fine from a librarian perspective so sending this to support may be your best bet here.

As an aside, I've seen this quite a bit recently where doing a lot of work on a title (particularly merging, separating, and combining) is causing shelving issues so I'm not sure if something got broken on the back end that's leading to these problems.

Yvonne Blackwood (yblackwood) | 3 comments I am trying to set up a print book giveaway for an upcoming book, but each time I enter the details another title comes up before I go to the payment page. I have checked Amazon.com in case the ISBN is the same but this is not so. Please help me fix this issue so I can complete setting up the giveaway. I already entered my book and cover in the system.

Hi Yvonne
It is best practice to start a new thread rather than tack on to a completely different issue.

If all book details have been entered correctly (without the book title it is difficult to check) then there is nothing else that volunteer librarians can do as Giveaways are nothing to do with us - we don't even have access to that part of the site.

This thread gives examples of some of the things librarians can't help with & also gives the link for contacting Support (Staff) :)

Drace (dracenines) | 7373 comments Circling back to my original question - do the librarians think removing the original publication date from the book and then putting it back in might fix the error with where it shows up on shelves?

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7857 comments We could always test it out on a couple of books and see if that makes a difference.

Drace (dracenines) | 7373 comments Into Thin Air is the only one with the date issue for me, so I wouldn't be able to provide any input on books other than that one.

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7857 comments I removed/then replaced the OPD for that book. I also refreshed the book stats. See if that helped.

Drace (dracenines) | 7373 comments The remove/replace doesn't seem to have worked, but I deleted the book from my shelf and then re-shelved it and it seems like that did the trick.

Good! I'm glad that worked.
