Minnesinger | 74 comments I noticed that the GR record for this quote by Theodore Roosevelt https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/7-it...
contains only 3 tags: “inspirational, politics, presidential”. This is unfortunate, because it limits the number of people who could see it.

I found guidance on editing quotes under Help which stated that only Superlibrarians are allowed to edit a Quotable Quote with more than x number (I forget the #) of Likes. This quote has far more than that number in any case, which I believe indicates the need to broaden its visibility on GoodReads.

If you look on the GR Theodore Roosevelt Quotations webpage, you can get ideas for additional tags (as I did).

I propose the following as possible tags to add, which would reflect the same sentiments Roosevelt expressed in this Quote attributed* to him.

Achievement, striving, great effort, self-sacrifice, daring, bravery, character, self-assuredness, faith in self,

——-
*Btw: Does anyone at GR verify that quotations added are in fact correct? (To the letter/Not altered in any way) Do you have a way to verify a quote? An unimpeachable source? If you or another SuperLibrarian could then add the word “Verified”, or some sort of statement (visible to the public) attesting to its veracity, I believe that would be immensely helpful and would be a feather in GR’s cap if it became known as a reliable source of quotations—even more so if you linked the quote record to an _authoritative_ source. As I’m sure you know, there are many websites offering quotations, but which contain an alarming number of errors and/or misattributions, and that has always bothered me. (Yet another form of misinformation/disinformation.)

Please let me know if you agree with and add any of my proposed tags? I’d appreciate it. And please apprise me as well if GR decides to verify and link quotes to authoritative sources.

Finally, I would appreciate being reinstated as a Volunteer Librarian because I believe I was wrongly dropped in the first place. I believe it occurred because I depended on guidance in the Librarian Manual at the time which was since changed. I was frustrated and felt unfairly maligned because I was dropped without explanation. I would have appreciated some sort of clarification re: whatever error I may have made before being dropped, and suspect I was dropped more out of pique than rational judgment. I felt some consolation after that when I noticed that the Librarian Manual had been updated to include more guidance and whole sections had been added or rewritten. I don’t claim to be infallible, but then neither is anyone else at GR, based on the number of errors I find regularly. I recognize that GoodReads is a massive website with massive challenges, but with many volunteers—and hopefully additional paid experts on staff—progress can be made. Despite having been cut, I have continued volunteering by way of online requests to the GR Librarian Group and/or to GR Support, e.g., requests to add ebook editions to title records , to add missing Translator names to title records, etc. I am not only an avid reader, I am an avid editor and proofreader, a former professional editor, writer and translator (MA, BA with multiple DoD agency certifications and publisher experience) and librarian (MLS with MD state teacher certification). I still consider myself a professional where the printed word, data, and permanent records are concerned! And it would be much easier to correct records if I could return to doing the work myself rather than request that someone else do it. I hope you understand! Thank you.

Minnesinger | 74 comments Please add quotation marks or italicize the following tags proposed in my previous submission:
“Achievement, striving, great effort, self-sacrifice, daring, bravery, character, self-assuredness, faith in self”, etc.

I regret not catching the omission before Posting.

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7858 comments We can add a total of 10 tags. There are already 3 in place. Select the 7 you would like added and let us know.

All questions, comments, and suggestions regarding Goodreads structure and policy need to go to Support, as volunteer librarians have no control over those areas.

Tags do not support the use of quotation marks nor italics.
