aura ༄ from what i've read, no you don't have to, although I did. I agree with faith, it does get you used to the magic system and gets you more comfortable with the terminology, places, etc. the first and third book of sab were pretty good, so I would encourage you to, to get the most out of six of crows

jas | 3 comments you dont have to but yes it does help you understand the universe a bit better. i personally did not read shadow and bone first, i only watched 1 season of the tv show and it was helpful enough for me to love six of crows

Stella 🍉 | 369 comments I read six of crows before I read shadow and bone and I still understood it pretty well. That being said, there were some mild spoilers, and I think shadow and bone serves as a great introduction into the world building of the Grishaverse

elsie (taylor's version) | 189 comments I was so confused the first time I tried reading soc so I read shadow and bone and I was able to understand it muchhhh better

Violet | 210 comments I would just read six of crows. The shadow and bone trilogy isn’t very good in my opinion and you don’t need to read it to understand six of crows.

legendofthe3divas | 998 comments I read SoC before SaB and didn't have much trouble understanding it, although SoC does reference SaB later on, but it's not very major to SoC's plot so you'd be fine without reading SaB
