The series is fine. It shouldn't be deleted. There's an issue right now that books are getting incorrectly combined. We just have to separate the first half of Jane Eyre that got incorrectly combined with the full edition. Update: I tried separating them but it's not working, this means it needs a superlibrarian or staff. Please move this request to the superlibrarian folder. On desktop click edit next to the topic title and select the superlibrarian folder then click save.
Tami, I see in the log what you are talking about. However, the separate tool doesn't work for me either. I get the following error, which I presume is the same error you are getting:This page isn’t working
www.goodreads.com is currently unable to handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500
The only thing I can do is split the editions one by one from the combine page, and I can't even be sure I've split the correct editions. Even this option does not always work as the page does not always load. After an hour spent on this, all I have to show are four editions I managed to split. I recombined them and added to the series instead of the main edition which did not belong there. You may be able to continue from here. Other than that, contacting support is all I can suggest.
Yes, I get the same error David. I cannot get the separate page to work no matter how much I try. I figured a workaround which is to separate one at the time from the combine page, not the separate page. I also realized that some of the books are wrongly combined with their parts. Because there's Jane Eyre that was split into two volumes, three volumes and four volumes. Some of the three volumes are combined with the two volumes. So part 2 of 2 are combined with part 2 of 3 and so on because some of them just say volume 2 but it's volume 2 of 3, not volume 2 of 2. I hope that makes sense. I'm trying to fix some of them but separating only one edition at a time is going to take forever. I'll just try to do what I can. Yeah, maybe it's best to contact support for this one Lauren, at least once they separate them from the full edition of Jane Eyre it will be easier to work on them.Volume 1 of 3: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
Volume 2 of 3: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
Volume 3 of 3: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
Volume 1 of 4: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
Volume 2 of 4: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
Volume 3 of 4: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
Volume 4 of 4: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
Ok, I think I got all of the 3 and 4 volumes separated. Not the split into two parts volumes. Should we create a series page for Jane Eyre (3 volumes) and Jane Eyre (4 volumes)?
Tami wrote: "Yes, I get the same error David. I cannot get the separate page to work no matter how much I try. I figured a workaround which is to separate one at the time from the combine page, not the separate..."Thanks everyone, I reported it!
And yes, it would be great if you could create series pages for the 3- and 4-volume editions.
Ok, let us know what they say. I hope they can fix it. I separated a couple more just now that I had a little free time. It's a tedious and time consuming process to do one by one.I created the series pages, the stats and default edition look a little wonky right know, it should fix itself in about a day:
3 volumes: https://www.goodreads.com/series/3994...
4 volumes: https://www.goodreads.com/series/3994...
and
6 volumes! https://www.goodreads.com/series/3994...
I found that one while combining/separating editions, it was split into 6 parts because it's a giant print book for low vision readers. I didn't know that was a thing. I thought it was interesting.
Thanks Tami, I'll let you know if/when I hear back!(I have reported several things to support over the years, and I usually don't get a response beyond "thanks for the report, we're looking into it.")
Tami, if you are interested in such projects, see this post for another mangled 10k+ editions monstrosity.

David wrote: "Tami, if you are interested in such projects, see this post for another mangled 10k+ editions monstrosity."Thank you David. I'm still working on the Jane Eyre book, it seems like staff wasn't able to separate that one. But I can only separate so many a day :P it gets tedious.
What did they say Lauren?
The response I got three days ago was:"We are currently working on your request, rest assured we'll let you know as soon as there's an update. In the meantime, if you have any other question or concern, please let us know!"

Uhmm, with the tool, it only takes a few seconds to separate the books. Too bad it doesn't work for us. I guess it's not working for them either. But what did you ask them to do? Did you tell them to separate the works, or did you just report that a bot is incorrectly combining books?
I'm not sure if I should keep working on it if they’re going to handle it?
I wasn't sure what to ask so I just directed them to this thread. Maybe they would take a request from a librarian more seriously?

Lauren wrote: "I wasn't sure what to ask so I just directed them to this thread. Maybe they would take a request from a librarian more seriously?"No, it doesn't work that way. You just needed to ask them to please separate all the editions of volume 1 that were wrongly combined with the full book. I’ve found it’s best to be straightforward—don’t even mention this group. I’ll give it a few days. Please post here if you hear back from them, so I know whether I should continue working on it or not. It's possible they will delete the series page since you sent them a link to this thread and that's what your post says to do. They might not read the whole thing.

Doesn't make sense and should be deleted.
Thanks!
