Ardit The book “To Kill A Mockingbird” and the song Prejudice have many things in common. “To Kill A Mockingbird” and the song Prejudice both talk about taking another mans life. That is similar to Tom robinson when they shot him, but he didn’t do anything. Another similarity is that “you see a mans face, but you can’t see his heart you don’t even know him but you tear him apart”. That is the same thing people around Maycomb county would say about Boo Radley and make up some stories about him, but they never seen him or know how he is really like. People in Maycomb county segregated Tom Robinson because he was an african american and accused him of rapeing Mayella Ewell. One more similarity is one man’s agony is another mans joy. They tortured Tom Robinson when he was in the cell. They would hit him and whip him then they just wanted to kill him.

The book “To Kill A Mockingbird” and the song Prejudice have many differences. They are talking about different things like the book is talking about a small town with mysterious people and the song is talking about the whole U.S.

The book is telling a story about a lot of people in one small town and the song is talking about everybody. The song has a different meaning than the book does sometimes it talks about different things.

John Vo Not everyone can love each and get along with each other and can rambled into chaos because the way this is going it’s not going into the correct route it’s suppose to be in. Harper Lee uses this event of Tom Robinson to show the hate in people can be powerful and hurt people compare to “Where is the love?” by Black-Eyed Peas this shows there wasn’t any love and it felt like it was gone. Many people were hating Tom Robinson and it was not like this when it use to be peaceful. Now all of a sudden people start hating Atticus because he was defending a negro (Tom Robinson). A mob of people decided to march where Tom Robinson and try to pursue him for what they think he raped Mayella Ewell. In both “To Kill A Mockingbird” and “Where is the love?” it shows that there was hate instead of love.
One the lyrics “What’s wrong with the world, mama” from the Black-Eyed Peas shows that there is something wrong in the world. This shows that in “To Kill A Mockingbird” that there was actually something wrong and that people are hating on the Finches for protecting Tom Robinson and that it all spirals on that event that made people hate on Finches. This song represent in “To Kill A Mockingbird” that there was wrong in the world and that it could be the cause for people hating the Finch family. When that case happen it went from being peaceful loving place to “There’s no need for love” and it went rock bottom because of that. The title of the song “Where is the love” does indeed describe how it was in that one event of To Kill A Mockingbird and it’s just a case of Tom Robinson because of his skin color.
Although this statement can be a reason for people just being chaotic over the Tom Robinson case it can be that they hate Tom Robinson in general and not care about his skin color. Also, this event would not be happening around the world because it’s only happening in one place. People act like this because they would be showing their true colors (who they really are like) about that case. Sometimes showing your true color can hurt someone in a bad way. This situation had came down from just the case where everything was peaceful to being all hate and this event in the novel.
While some people feel different to others and don’t get along that well and how powerful it can feel to others showing your true color, and you shouldn't use that to make others sad and where was the love from the case.

message 5: by Allen (new)

Allen In both To Kill A Mockingbird and “You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave” we learn that there are always some sort of injustice.
In both To Kill A Mockingbird -by Harper Lee- and Fall Out Boy’s song “You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave” they have similar themes. Both involves an innocent person that is seen guilty for something they haven’t done. This is comparative to To Kill A Mockingbird because the same thing has happened to Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson was an innocent black man who was accused of rapping a white woman. The jury found him guilty and he was later sent to jail.
There could also be another thing that could relate between the two such as using quotes/lyrics about birds and death. In one of the lines of the song the lyrics say “Unimpressed birds sing and die” right before it says “ The foreman reads the verdict in the above entitled actions we find the defendant… Guilty...Guilty...Guilty...Guilty…” This could relate the to quote in to Kill A Mockingbird “It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” and how they just sing and do not harm their surroundings. The bird dying could relate to Tom Robinson-the mockingbird- dying because the jury found him guilty of his accused crime which he would then later die in prison.

Although both have similar themes there are a few things that are different. Things such as information about the defendant was left out in “You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave”. In the song we really don’t have an idea of what kind of person he is, his credibility or even their name. The song just solely focuses on the fact he was innocent and was wrongly accused of a crime. We don’t really know anything about the person like we know Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson was credible and there was evidence to prove that. Mayella Ewell testified that Tom beat her on the right side of her face. That was proved improbable because Tom Robinson’s left arm is basically useless. He can’t move his left arm because of an accident when he was little. The accident tore all the muscles in his left arm. And for the person in the song? We are left clueless due to the fact the artist has left us with broad details.

In both To Kill a Mockingbird and “You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave”, we learn that there’s always some sort of injustice.

message 6: by Julian (new)

Julian Everyone in life has been in a situation where there is prejudice around. In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and “Prejudice” by Soulfly, prejudice is a constant theme. In To Kill A Mockingbird, the community that the main characters live in is full of prejudice and hatred for african americans. While this theme is more implied than showed, it is still a very constant theme in the book. Now, in the song “Prejudice” it talks about prejudice and racism being passed down from generation to generation and being a constant thing happening everywhere. In both To Kill A Mockingbird and “Prejudice” we learn that prejudice causes agony and joy for the people participating in it, or being the victim of it.

In To Kill A Mockingbird, Scout is exposed to social injustice due to prejudice in the court trial of Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson is sentenced to prison and dies while trying to “escape”. Tom Robinson was an innocent man though, the only reason he was sent to jail was because of a racist/prejudice jury. This relates to the song “Prejudice” by Soulfly, because it talks about killing a man just because of the color of his face and that one man’s agony is another man’s joy. Both of these texts are talking about prejudice and social injustice, and are both talking about people suffering because of the color of their skin.

In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, Lee uses symbolism to describe the effects of prejudice on an average african american, while in “Prejudice” they use metaphors to describe it. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird it shows Tom Robinson being symbolized as a mockingbird. The effects of prejudice on an average african american are showed through the phrase, “It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird”. In the song “Prejudice” it does not use symbolism to explain this, it uses metaphors. For example, it says “See a man's face but you can't see his heart don't even know him but you tear him apart,” If this metaphor means that prejudice is hurting people emotionally and physically, then this is true because prejudice can kill someone, or simply just hurt their feelings.

In both To Kill A Mockingbird and “Prejudice” we learn that prejudice causes agony and joy for the people participating in it, or being the victim of it. After studying the song and the book reader’s might conclude that prejudice, whether it be social or personal is hidden in most communities. Though we all may have experienced prejudice in some form, it doesn’t have to be that way forever.

To Kill A Mockingbird & You’re Crashing but you’re no wave

The choices that people make in their life can determine if they will succeed or fail in life, this happens to everyone. This is greatly shown in the book To Kill A Mockingbird and the song You’re Crashing but you’re no wave. In To KIll A Mockingbird, Atticus, the father of two kids, has taken a case to defend an innocent black man. Atticus didn’t have to take the case, but Atticus didn’t want to back down to save an innocent man. This choice made an dramatic turn in his life which either led him to succeed or fail in his life. In You’re Crashing but you’re no wave a man who was found guilty was actually an innocent man. The jury thought different. The choices this man made affected his life in a very uneasy way to where he failed in life. In both To KIll A Mockingbird and You’re Crashing but you’re no wave, they show that in life you have to make hard decisions to determine who you are.

A common theme in both texts is that when the odds of succeeding are against you, you must make that decision to succeed or you can choose to fail. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus wouldn’t give up this case after he knew he would lose. He knew he would lose because he was defending a black man in the times of slavery and racism. In You’re Crashing but you’re no wave the man is found guilty, but he wouldn’t stop trying to prove that he is innocent. In both texts, the characters are willing to make that choice to succeed or fail.

In both texts, it’s not just similarities, there are also differences in which pull these two characters apart. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus is defending a black man in which he knew he would lose, due to the racism in that time. In You’re Crashing but you’re no wave, the man who is found guilty is actually white. The two texts inspire people to make hard decisions in life to choose whether to succeed or fail in their life.

In both To Kill a Mockingbird and You’re Crashing but you’re no wave, it shows us that the harder the decision the bigger the impact it will have on your life. Now this impact could be positive or negative, it’s up to you on whether you want it to be positive or negative. This brings us back to the fact that in life you have to make hard decisions to determine who you are or who you will be.

Kara Gossage Rough Draft Thematic Essay
In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, it takes place in Maycomb county, where Atticus is put on a trial to defend Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson was accused of raping and harassing Mayella Ewell- a white young female- In between this trial, a lot of talk gets around and Atticus is judged and pushed around because he is defending a negro (A.K.A black man.) This is a problem because they only think Tom did it because he is colored, and she is a white woman. The lesson that this story proves to me is that racism is kept alive through fear and ignorance.

I think that Racism is kept alive through fear and ignorance is the theme of the story. I think this is the theme because throughout most of the story, everyone goes against Atticus because they’re racist towards the black. Therefore, the town is keeping racism alive because they’re being provoked by Atticus’ actions. One scene I found in this story that proves this, is when Scout gets into a big argument with Francis because he insults and trash talks Atticus. “But now he’s turned out a nigger-lover, we’ll never be able to walk the streets of Maycomb again,” (Ch. 9, Pg. 110) This tells me that Francis thinks this is all Atticus’s fault and that Atticus has ruined the families reputation in Maycomb because he is standing up for a negro.

This scene causes me to think that Francis is scared of the outcome and dislikes the blacks, therefore, he is going to be racist and rude. He claims this statement because he wants Scout to notice what Francis thinks Atticus is doing wrong, and maybe what he should stop and think about. Therefore, maybe Francis isn’t doing this because he wants to make Scout upset, but maybe because he’s jealous that Atticus is doing something he could never do and maybe because of jealousy.

Another fact that shows that racism is kept alive through fear and ignorance is that one day, Scout asks Atticus why he is defending a negro. “I couldn’t hold up my head in town, I couldn’t represent this county in the legislature, I couldn’t even tell you or Jem not to do something again,” (Ch. 9, Pg. 100) This statement shows me that Atticus is defending Tom because it is what’s for the best. I think that he’s doing this to show that he has confidence in standing up for what he believes in to make a stop to this discrimination. This also helps us to argue against what Francis thinks. This tells me that being racist can cause you to be ignorant or mean towards someone or something.

Lshtembari Comparative Essay
In both poem and novel a man is different from others by what he does.I think that atticus is different from other people in town and because he helps a black man from going to jail. From this atticus is different because some people in the town are dont like blacks and makes atticus different from some others. There is also a difference that is theat most.In the poem this man takes a road that people don’t take but this guy does and i think this is what makes this competitive to the book. The comparative from the novel is that this man has took this road that has never deen taken befor and not the other what most of the people use. This is why i think that they have some thing in commen to what they did and it shows that they have done that they have incommen. In both “To kill A Mockingbird” and “The Road Not Taken” there is a man that is doing different to what others are doing.

In the novel and poem “To Kill A Mockingbird” and “The Road Not Taken” they show a similarities in both and that is a man is being different from others. In “To Kill A Mockingbird” Atticus helps a black man in a trial and most people dint like blacks that much a the time.In “The Road Not Taken” this man takes a different road that most dont use and it mad a diffrence to him.The similarities are that the man takes a diffrent route but in the novel Atticus defends a black man, who most people dint like black in the time and Atticus defends the man and dose what others might not do.In both the similarities are that this mad dose what is diffrent to others.

In both the novel and poem there is a slight difference between these to two, that there the man in the poem takes the most used road taken and atticus was asked to defend the man and he did it.From the poem the states that he took the most used here look “Oh, I kept the first for another day!Yet knowing how way leads on to way,I doubted if I should ever come back.”this showed that he didn't take the other road, but used the most road taken. In the book the judge ask Atticus to defend the man “The court appointed Atticus to defend him.Atticus aimed to defend him.Thats what they dint like a about it.It was confusing.”This is a slight difrence in the poem and novel that is wired about.

In both “To Kill A Mockingbird” and “The Road Not Taken” there is that is doing different to others are doing. This is the comparison and difference between these two the poem and novel in this text. The main point is that both have something in common to the idea of a man doing different to what others doing different.Overall the poem and novel have that this man does something different to others and this text shows that there is something in common with these two.

In the song and the book To Kill a Mockingbird book it shows people can really care about for you without you knowing.
In the song What Is Love by v Bozeman the lyric What is love if you're not here with me? this lyrics mean to me is when scout ,dill, jem want to see Boo but he never comes out. another lyric What is love if you're not really sure? the kids always thought Boo Radley was dead but when scout rolled in the radleys , scout heard a laugh that no one else could hear but her she like im not really sure if this is real. I would also think that because people say that Boo was dead and you rolled in their yard and you hear laughing I would think i'm just hearing thing what is it if you're not really sure? They kids really care about Boo Radley even though, they haven't really meet him but all the stuff he leaves in the knothole so that he love them but the kids are not really sure. Who is leaving all the nice things for them but the only person that think they know who it is jem because he think the knothole is by the Radley. Also i can compare the song to the family ,and how close they are. What goes around will come right back around, you won't know 'til it hit you. this an example is when scout told her uncle jack he was not good at parenting and he would let her cousin francis do things he wont let her do. Scout made him realize that that we have to have equal rules. In the book called the To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee the song what is love by v bozeman shows that is you don't have to be there to show love.

Max Reed Some of the lyrics in the song man in the mirror and some of the scenes from the book To Kill A Mockingbird both symbolize the same thing. The song man in the mirror and the book To Kill A Mockingbird both symbolize change for the better. In the song it says. “I’m talking to the man in the mirror”.
That means he’s talking to himself and he is the one changing himself. For example in the book Atticus tries to change Scout for the better by telling her that saying the N-WORD she comes off as a common person.

Both the song man in the mirror and the book To kill A Mockingbird share the same type of problem solving theme. Michael was talking about how he wanted to make a change in the book. Atticus is also trying to make a change in the society of his town. He says things like we are all equal and you can make yourself better by changing yourself to think that way. In Michaels song he talks about looking at yourself and changing yourself for the better. The song and what Atticus is saying both relay about the same message. This evidence makes me think that they both are about an inner message and were meant to change people’s views on life.

The song and the book also share the same theme of someone sending a message. Atticus tries to send a message to the towns people of maycomb against racism.

Robbie In life most the time people follow the crowd and stick with what society views as acceptable or okay but sometimes people breaking the norm can be for the better.Harper Lee and Robert Frost use this universal idea in How To Kill A Mockingbird and The Road Not Taken but in similar and different ways.
In To Kill A Mockingbird,Harper Lee uses atticus as a sign of defying the norm when he takes a case for a black man when back in that time this was unheard and unaccepted of.But, in The Road Not Taken Robert Frost uses a traveler who sees two roads diverged but the traveler takes the uncommon road besides the road thats taken all the time and near the end of the poem the traveler says “that made all the difference”.Both stories clearly tell the same meaning but they tell it in a very different way.How To Kill A Mockingbirds way of telling this is much more complex as it is a long drawn out story and setting with many different charaters, ideas, and themes throughout the book. But,in Robert Frosts poem because it is a poem it is much much shorter so he must tell his message quickly so his story is much simpler and stright to the point and is basically just a guy who we dont know much about choosing to walk down a road less taken for symbolic reasons.
