jill ౨ৎ | 25 comments i'm considering ordering an ereader. could you list pros and cons?

are you an ereader girly or do you prefer real books? <3

message 2: by caity (new)

caity (caity88) | 6 comments pros:

- read in any lighting at all
- reading while walking treadmill with my page turner
- reading in bed in any position
- portable
- lately getting into really lengthy big heavy books and i cannot imagine carrying that around
- syncs with kindle app that you can have on your smart phone

i have no cons im too obsessed lol

message 3: by Persephone (new)

Persephone | 39 comments I totally agree with Caity. The only con there is related to the health of your eyes. So, make sure you wear glasses if you have them, or take breaks every now and then.

bibliophile [semi ia] | 55 comments cons:
you don’t have the feeling of reading a book
no book smell
no feeling of pages
it’s terrible for your eyes
the stress of making sure it’s charged

i’m not either way (i dx hv an ereader but i do want one) but the others listed pros and i thought u shld have some cons

message 5: by Sav (new)

Sav | 4 comments cons:
no bookshelf aesthetic
bad if you prefer physical books
pros: read anytime and any time of day (bc the light)
easy to bring Anywhere anytime

message 6: by Bella (new)

Bella The Bookworm (bellabuchanan) | 397 comments I love the feeling of holding a physical book and being able to annotate too much to use an ereader

message 7: by Bella (new)

Bella The Bookworm (bellabuchanan) | 397 comments Though I do think getting an ereader doesn’t mean you give up physical books, so if that’s your problem, just use both

message 8: by Sunny (new)

Sunny | 31 comments I love real books. I'll choose them every time. But reading digital books is certainly convenient. Easier to carry around for sure, but nothing will ever replace paper.

message 9: by Platinum (last edited Aug 02, 2024 09:26AM) (new)

Platinum the Trash Panda (moetrashpanda) I agree with everything everyone above has posted. ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

I love both forms for different reasons. I prefer e-reading due to the convenience, and the fact that I tend to read physical books slower, unless they are short stories or manga. I like physical books for the smell, aesthetics, and feel of the book on my fingers. My cats are naughty, though, and will monch on paperback book covers if given the chance.

If you have a library in your area, check if they are associated with the Libby app! I checkout e-books/audiobooks constantly with my library through Libby. You can read the books from Libby on a Kindle or on your phone/computer/tablet! ʕ•ᴥ<ʔ

Mariomreads ♡☆♡ | 2 comments real books!! I love the feeling of a physical book

amber.☘︎ ݁˖ (maimber) | 30 comments i’m a kindle lover myself! having kindle unlimited is really good for me too! i sometimes get bored of books then regret buying them, but if i know i didn’t spend £9 on a book it alleviates the guilt yk! i read 25 books on my kindle last month and only paid the monthly fee for kindle unlimited!! plus with some ku books there’s a free audible version which is also super handy!

message 12: by Clarissa (new)

Clarissa Labue-Pham (phamtasyartist) | 691 comments I prefer a physical copy but some books are substantially cheaper if not free so I do use my kindle, more regularly now and I enjoy it. it's very convenient, holds a ton of books in one small size, and lets you change a bunch of stuff in the settings that you can't change in a book.

message 16: by mariya (new)

mariya (mariya_aa) | 84 comments ereader pros:
cheaper/free (depends where you get your books)
can annotate and get rid of mistakes easily
bookmarks (no need to find one/ruin a page)
can bring anywhere (lighter/on phone/whatever device)
can read anywhere

cons:
no feeling of book pages ect
sm times hard to highlight/get the right words (if that makes sense, depends on device)
limit on how long to keep (if borrowing)
waiting times (if borrowing)

i borrow from this app called libby, basc an online library (need a library card) but i wanna try read more physical books (borrowing from library) so yeah!

esther ⭐️ (in school) | 416 comments BOTH for sure
for ereader find myself being less susceptible to skipping to the end to take a ‘sneak peek’ of the ending 😝 and its easy to bring around so that i can just read anywhere anytime (like i can tote it around my different classrooms)
for book the smell is amazing and i love the ability to flip and feel the pages

message 27: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weeks (saruuhreads) | 29 comments both!

Eden (Taylor’s version) Both! They have their own special things.

message 29: by Luna (new)

Luna (lunasterken) | 66 comments i used to be anti ereader, changed my mind bc i was becoming a broke bitch. started reading on my ipad, but noticed it wasn't good for my eyes!

why i prefer an ereader:
- able to read to read in any position
- easy to take with you bc of the size and weight
- able to read i the dark and in the sun
- cheaper in the long run since you can put epubs on there you downloaded!

why i miss physical books:
- no more trophies in my room (i don't have space for them but still)
- the smell and feeling of the pages

message 30: by Maria (new)

Maria (maria-a) | 12 comments I tend to read faster or skim ebooks but real books I take my time reading.

message 31: by Penguin (new)

Penguin | 5 comments deff a real book!

message 32: by Za (new)

Za (zalemor) | 38 comments definitely real books....even though i am running out of places to put them.

message 33: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Tamburrino | 2 comments I have a kindle that I use to bring to places I don't want to damage a physical book at and to read at home at night, but I also have a collection of physical books that I read at home during day or bring to work to read. you can find a nice balance of both tbh. I also use my Kindle to read books I won't necessarily like enough to buy a copy of

message 34: by Carola (new)

Carola Ingignoli | 8 comments the e-reader is great if you go around a lot and you don’t want to carry heavy books with you but the physical book has that beautiful book smell. with the e-reader i personally read faster and longer books because it doesn’t feel like i read that much

lilly ♡ (semi-hiatus) | 1470 comments i love real books but honestly ive been rly wanting to start reading e books more bc its easier to highlight, and i can only get library books :(

message 36: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea De La Cruz (chellydonuts) | 5 comments I use my kindle for Libby for the majority of my reading, and the convenience of not having to manage my library books physically is such a relief.
Also I read every where all the time without worrying about wrecking my book or forgetting it.

message 37: by Felishia (last edited Aug 16, 2024 09:06PM) (new)

Felishia | 58 comments Both!
Pros to an e-reader- you can easily use it in various settings, exercising, reading in the dark, traveling etc...
Prices of books tend to be cheaper
You can instantly get books
Rentable books from library without going to the library
If youre like me and need a dictionary when you read, the kindle makes it easy to define.
You dont need a lot of physical space to have as many books as you want.
You can decorate/customize it
I read faster on my kindle
You can fall asleep while reading and your page isnt moved or lost. Unless you do crazy stuff while sleeping on it
Discreet reading

Cons
No book mail
No physical copies unless you buy them too
No sniffing pages or feeling them
Hard on the eyes
No annotating really, just basic highlight and notes
I dont *think* you can lend out your ebooks but i might be wrong...Someone else confirm or deny that.
Charging it, not a huge deal unless youre someone who isnt good about keeping up with charges on your devices it also doesnt need to be charged*that* often

message 38: by Tasha (new)

Tasha | 318 comments Honestly an e reader is amazing for me. I have a kindle paperwhite for a few months now. I like the idea that it is so easy to carry. I don’t prefer one over the other, but I will say that if you like to annotate having the physical to me is better
