Javalyn | 27 comments Like, does an ugly cover make you not want to read it?

lilly ♡ (semi-hiatus) | 533 comments tbh yeah. i'll most likely still read it but i get really unmotivated

message 3: by Grace (new)

Grace Franklin | 3 comments It depends for me..if it’s recommended to me then I’ll pick it up no matter what. If I’m just at the book store looking around it lowkey does for me unfortunately lol. I’ll only really pick up a book at the store if the cover catches my eye

message 4: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn | 611 comments 100% and I’m not (always) sorry about it 😚✌🏻😂 it works in reverse tho too, I’m likely to give a book a shot if the cover catches my eyes. Like chefs say: “you eat with your eyes first!” 🤌🏻

message 5: by Sara (new)

Sara | 16 comments Yes. I won't lie. I like pretty book covers, not covers with loads of people and overly busy. If that makes sense?

message 6: by Elise (new)

Elise Batita | 2 comments i mean a nice and beautiful cover might make me buy it ;/ but an ugly cover might be a dealbreaker

message 7: by gabby (new)

gabby | 287 comments yeah totally if a book has a really ugly cover I 100% won't read it. like it just shows that the author didn't care enough ab their book to put effort into having a good cover

message 8: by maria🤍 (new)

maria🤍 | 527 comments I, unfortunately, do judge a book by its cover

bookworm ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆ | 9 comments @maria same i also judge by its title sometimes if it’s pretty or interesting looking i’ll pick it up but all those “life of” books i will skip over 😂

message 10: by Shadel (new)

Shadel S. (shadel_bookquest) | 22 comments I don't particularly like book covers with people, cartoonish designs, or heavy AI graphics, but I read them anyway. I prefer book covers that are more discreet.

⋆˚࿔ jayreadsx 𝜗𝜚˚⋆ | 219 comments i’m a judge a book by its cover kinda girl. but it varies, sometimes, if it’s recommended to me

message 12: by Beth :) (new)

Beth :) (booksbeth) | 276 comments I will still read it if it has been recommended, or I've heard a lot about it, and it sounds like I'll enjoy it even if it has an ugly cover. but I'm more motivated by pretty book covers, I like when a book cover encapsulates the books energy. when looking in a book store, I do judge the covers. I'm way more likely to pick up a pretty cover or one I like.

message 13: by LoveBooks (new)

LoveBooks (httpssavepalestinecarrdco) | 51 comments most of the times yesss!!

Sienna (Azriel's version) Tbh most of the time yes but if the title seems interesting I'll read the back. Or if it's recommended to me I'll try it.

message 15: by Luli (new)

Luli | 107 comments yes unless someone reccomends it

message 16: by Bethany ♡ (new)

Bethany ♡ (bethaknee) | 4 comments Yes !!

message 17: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Keen (kelseykeen) | 21 comments Sometimes - if it's an ugly cover but people have been throwing a fit over the book, I'll still read it but keep my Kindle face down when it's off!

message 18: by Cristian (new)

Cristian Carrington For sure. To me a cover makes my mind wonder especially if it's really good. After that it's up to the story to hook me.

message 19: by Cristian (new)

Cristian Carrington A "bad" cover can sometimes be funny and interest you in that way too. All depends.

Molly。*♡ | 2 comments yess! I'm a sucker for pretty covers!

message 21: by Rose (new)

Rose (nightshadow333) | 11 comments A good cover is more likely to grab my attention, but it doesn’t decide if I’ll read it or not.

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (adayinmymediocrelife) | 64 comments I am a mood reader and if I get stuck and don't know what I want to read next I will pick the one with the most interesting cover.

message 23: by angeline (new)

angeline (ramblingdaydreams) unfortunately yes lmaooo

message 24: by lovemenot15 (new)

lovemenot15 (anahoy) | 2 comments If the book is good I’ll read it online but I won’t buy it

message 25: by Sanvi (new)

Sanvi Rai | 87 comments Maybe…

message 26: by Ella (new)

Ella Tabanfar | 99 comments Sometimes… Iusually pick books up based on their cover. And if I have a book with an ugly cover, it doesn’t mean I’m not going to read it. It means that I’ll probably read the book with a pretty covers first like I’ll just put that book off.

message 27: by Maria (new)

Maria (maria-a) | 17 comments No not at all. I select books based on the theme, summary and reviews. Some of the books I have on my to read list have more than one cover design.

message 28: by ~Aubrie~ (new)

~Aubrie~ | 64 comments As much as I would like to say no I know that's not true, if a cover of a book is good then I am more likely to look at the back to see more about the book. If a book has a pretty cover that won't be the biggest decider over all what influences my decision is what the book is about. Some book covers can insinuate things about the book making it harder to read those books in public so I kind of have to look at the cover in a way that determines if I read it.

message 29: by lys (new)

lys (lysfletcher) | 24 comments honestly yes lol

message 30: by Lamine (new)

Lamine Moses (lamine-moses_author101) | 1 comments Yes it depends. If your book cover is attractive and catchy they'll all have a second thought

message 31: by bella (new)

bella | 101 comments yes.

message 32: by Masen (new)

Masen M | 8 comments It depends if the book was recommended to me that I definitely will need it even if the cover is ugly AF but tbh if it is ugly, most likely won’t read it

message 33: by Dev pjo (new)

Dev pjo | 164 comments Yes, guilty as charged

message 34: by LaQuanda (new)

LaQuanda Austin (lupiestrong) | 1 comments It's what draws my attention originally to a book.

message 35: by ♡ Tkay! (new)

♡ Tkay! (tkaayyy) | 188 comments Yes and no. I definitely shy away from covers with real people on them, but I always give a book a chance first!

message 36: by Aleeza (new)

Aleeza K | 47 comments If the cover is very bold and something I would feel very uncomfortable with carrying around, then I'd read it online, but if it's okay, then I'll buy it and read it's physical form. But all in all too vulgar or bold covers are what I steer clear from

message 37: by Ansu (new)

Ansu | 1 comments I am not going to lie, but I do judge a book by it's cover.

message 38: by Flame (new)

Flame Flora | 25 comments for me its a yes

message 39: by Valentina (new)

Valentina | 1 comments Yes! Definitely! And the funny thing is that I am always right :D

message 40: by jake☆ (new)

jake☆ (thelastolympivn) absolutely

message 41: by Emilie (new)

Emilie May | 1 comments 100% yes - I am sure there are plenty of good books out there that have not the prettiest of covers, but I cannot read a book if the cover does not catch my eye.

message 42: by Dani (new)

Dani | 14 comments Yes. If the cover doesn't catch my eye, I likely won't read it unless it is suggested to me by someone.

message 43: by mina (new)

mina if it's a physical book, yes. if I read it online, not really

message 44: by mariya (new)

mariya (mariya_aa) | 48 comments yeah icl i'm picky when it comes to books
if i'm browsing the library w no specific book in mind then cover determines a lottt on whether or not i pick it up to read
like i will automatically disregard books w actual ppl on it, idky its js an ick for me
but if it's a popular book /been recommended to me & i've heard good things ab it then the cover of that doesnt rlly matter (except the irl people loll)

message 45: by gracie ౨ৎ (new)

gracie ౨ৎ (gracies_library) hmm not rlly for me. if i see a pretty cover ill def be interested and will read the back, but ill only buy it if it sounds good

message 46: by Aniyah (new)

Aniyah Dasanyi | 7 comments Kind of but not really, like the aesthetic of the cover is what is going to draw me to it in the first place.

message 47: by F (new)

F (toobusyreadingx) Sometimes but very little. If it’s a physical book that I haven’t heard of before it will definitely affect how I view it but if I’ve been recommended the book and/or know a little bit about it then the cover doesn’t affect me.

message 48: by Valenn (new)

Valenn | 4 comments if it has real people on them... goodbye

message 49: by Sara ୨ৎ ݁˖ (new)

Sara ୨ৎ ݁˖ | 91 comments Valenn wrote: "if it has real people on them... goodbye"

YES!!! i absolutely hate when books have real people on them like why!?!?!

Wine_about_books11 | 67 comments ahhh yess! It is my initial filtering mechanism.
If the book is from an author I've never tried, then I need to find the book eye-catching enough to engage with it.
But if it's from a writer I've read works of, then I'm gonna devour it despite the flat covering.
