August 2024 First in a Series BOTM - Powerless, by Lauren Roberts

Okay, I'll see if I join cz I really want to read it but I'm kinda messed up with the small schedule I had.

Don't encourage me to add to my TBR! You know my self-control with series 🫣

Hahahaha I give you my scout's honour word to wait as much as possible, but CATCH UP!!
But if I start here I might not finish before I finish them all, I see what you're trying to do lol

Anyone listen to the audibook? I'm considering to read-listen at the same time.

Up to Chapter 9
So much has happened already! The poor family that Kai had to banish. It was heartbreaking but I'm of course happy he let the litt..."
I agree.
I am a bit confused because some terminology is thrown in with no context and explanation. But I can overlook it cz I am figuring it out as I go.
I am surprised (view spoiler)
I'm happy about the pace so far.

YES! I listened to the audiobook and read on kindle. I LOVED the audiobook. Highly recommend.

I am listening to the audiobook.
I wish it was duet not dual narration, but the voice actors are great for their respective roles.

So I do see the similarities with other books but I am not someone who minds this borrowing.
I personally focus more on how the book makes me feel and the delivery even if the story has common components or events.
I am worried we will have a (view spoiler)

Yes. I agree, it would have been much better to have a duet. I was really just there for Kai haha. Darling just got me every time.
You're certainly onto some things!

Your reactions to this made me laugh 😂 I get you, I sometimes get shocked and react before I realise it was completely unnecessary

I was going to slap him, until I realised he didn't mean it. Guess I learned not to react before I finish the chapter after I read your reaction to chp 24 😂
He's perplexing yet so simple.
I think maybe Lauren is over explaining?

Could the book be better? 100% I see so much that can be improved, but I am judging it as a debut romantasy novel and not in comparison with other things.

Yeah, that looked like a hard decision no matter what. One can only hope it's the right one. I also liked that she saved him too!

I wasn't surprised by the attack, I figured something was going to happen here, lol. We can never have peaceful moments for too long in these kinds of books.

He is the very thing she’s spent her whole life pretending to be.
Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya—the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites.
The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that—ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished in order to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime—making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity.
Surviving in the slums as an Ordinary is no simple task, and Paedyn knows this better than most. Having been trained by her father to be overly observant since she was a child, Paedyn poses as a Psychic in the crowded city, blending in with the Elites as best she can in order to stay alive and out of trouble. Easier said than done.
When Paeydn unsuspectingly saves one of Ilyas princes, she finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials. The brutal competition exists to showcase the Elites’ powers—the very thing Paedyn lacks. If the Trials and the opponents within them don’t kill her, the prince she’s fighting feelings for certainly will if he discovers what she is—completely Ordinary.
