“Fine. Demigod: a being with partial or lesser divine status, such as a minor deity, the offspring of a god and a mortal, or a mortal raised to divine rank.” Jackson said, reading from his dictionary. “Halfblood: a race of beings that are half-mortal and half-god. HA! They’re different!”

You just described the exact same concept." Emory smirked, looking directly into his eyes, crossing her arms.
"That's not how that works," Emory laughed, shaking their head. "Why do you even have a dictionary with you?"
(Sorry for the late response, I had 9 am swim practice that’s thirty minutes away from where I live :( )
((It's fine lol, I don't really wake up this early (well, I will now since school starts in around a week) but ye))
“Iregardless I’m still correct.” Jackson said. “And since my sword is very dangerous, I bring books and small regular metal knifes with me to defend myself.”
"No you're not," Emory laughed. "And why would you need to bring a book to defend yourself? In case someone dares try to hurt your precious ego?" She joked.
“I do not have a big ego! And Ares kids are mean that’s why.” Jackson said. “I don’t want to kill them though.”
“No, I act like I have a big ego to hide what’s really inside,” Jackson said, smiling. “And the fact my self esteem is literal crap.”
“Nothing.” Jackson said, turning to shoot an arrow. One of the biggest secrets he had was how he despised himself deeply a hatred that started after his parents died.
Emory narrowed their eyes, watching as Jackson fired another arrow. Furrowing her brow, Emory stayed there, watching him. But they said nothing, merely waiting to see if he would say anything else.
“Why are you staring, Emory?” Jackson asked, shooting a few more arrows. “Staring is rude.” He said, blowing his hair off his eyes. As her stare didn’t relent he sighed. “Ich sage eine dumme sache und schon geht ein anderes geheimnis den bach runter.” He said, shaking his head. (I say one stupid thing and another secret goes down the drain.)
"Stell dich nicht dumm, Jackson. Du weißt, warum ich dich so ansehe," Emory said, continuing to look directly at him. (Don't play stupid, Jackson. You know why I'm looking at you like this.)
“Warum können wir nicht eine Stunde vergehen, ohne dass ich ein großes Geheimnis verrate?” Jackson sighed. He shot an arrow that landed in the second outermost circle. (Why can't we go one hour without me revealing some grand secret?)
“Ich hasse mich selbst. So. Das ist die Wahrheit. Bist du glücklich?” He said, shooting an arrow that landed in outmost circle.
(I hate myself. There. That’s the truth. Are you happy?)
Emory's eyes softened as Jackson spoke. She gently placed her hand on his shoulder."Why didn't you tell me?"
“It’s just easier to act like I have a big ego than be self deprecating. After my quest, and what happened during it, when Chrysanthemum…” Jackson sighed. “I-. It felt like it was all my fault when she passed. It was all my fault when my parents passed too. Why should I live when they were such better people than I am? So I was depressed and self deprecating, losing the few other people in my life who cared. I didn’t make any friends for years after that. I mean, sure some of my siblings care, but to most I’m just the long time year rounder. I’m nothing special. And after a few years after that I decided that if I ever got a friend again, that I wouldn’t be depressing. I wouldn’t act like I hated myself. My big ego started out as comical but turned into something else. It turned into the screen door blocking the door to my true emotions. My true personality.”
Emory frowned, her expression softening even further. In an instant, they hugged Jackson, not saying anything. He shouldn't have to go through that, Emory thought.
Jackson hugged her back. It reminded him of Crystal, which made his eyes water a bit. He felt something unusual in his heart for a few seconds before it halted its flutters. “Thank you.” He said softly. “For everything.”
"It's nothing," Emory responded, still hugging him. "You shouldn't have to go through that, nor should you think of yourself like that."
Emory continued to hold him, eventually closing her own eyes. Emory truly meant every single one of their words. Jackson had gone through so much pain, none of which he deserved.
Tears were welling up in Jackson’s eyes as he tried to blink them away, causing them to fall on Emory’s shoulder.
Jackson nodded. He sniffled, trying to stop crying as his tears slowed. He wanted to say something but he couldn’t form a regular sentence with his scattered thoughts.
Jackson nodded. He shot another arrow, though not fast like he did before. He did it slowly and precisely and it hit the bullseye.
"Is that why you come out here and practice archery?" Emory asked, softly brushing her thumb under his eyes, wiping away the rest of his tears.
Jackson opened up his mouth to speak but then shut it. He just nodded. He looked into her eyes as to say thank you.
"Schau mich an. Sag solche Dinge nicht mehr über dich. Bitte," Emory said, cupping his cheek. "Du hörst mich?" She asked, smiling even though her eyes shone with sadness.(Look at me. Don't say those things about yourself anymore. Please.)
(You hear me?)
