I'll read it today.

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments I had asked
Do you think The Lion Women of Tehran would work for "nationality"?

If not, I also have a copy of The Quiet American which could work for nationality...

Did you already finish A Room of One’s Own? If so, I found a solution.😊

Put A Room of One's Own in the single Room/Parts of a House. Move Freefall to the Color Blue, and move All American Boys to Nationality. Ta da!

Carrie | 348 comments Just assign me one. I can fill any.

Done!

Mansi, I don't know how many pages Freefall was. (Sorry, forgot to look before I moved it!)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments So it looks as if we are set for the farm triple? I had two books I could read for that.

I could finish the double OCEAN prompt with Uncertain Voyage Uncertain Voyage by Dorothy Gilman since it shows plant life in the ocean on the cover.

I could complete the double BOOK prompt with Murder Past Due (Cat in the Stacks, #1) by Miranda James

I have two books that I think work for school:
The Accomplice (Theodore Boone, #7) by John Grisham
The Accused (Theodore Boone, #3) by John Grisham

I could easily read all four of the books listed above by midnight Sunday. I have all weekend to myself! Barring some emergency, of course!

message 210: by Lina (last edited Aug 09, 2024 11:28AM) (new)

Lina | 823 comments @ Lynn I think the ocean prompt might already be covered (see above comment from Mansi about moving Malibu Rising)?

Freefall was mine, not Mansi's. I had the page numbers in my tracking tab, so I moved it to my column and added the pages back.

message 212: by TerryJane, Challenges (new)

TerryJane | 4026 comments Paragraph Ranch is currently listed for Books and Farm, but can only count for one. I think we need either two Books or two for Farm.

Alina | 257 comments I am also having a little trouble with new prompts - I don´t what I´ve read until now could be moved to any of them. So I just now had a look into my TBR but other than ocean, where you already have books I can´t find anything fitting.

I´ll have a look into some goodreads list if I can find anything that I can also finish by sunday midnight

____

edit: actually I just had another look and I could read The Wishing Game it only has little over 300pages, I´m sure I can finish that by the time the readathon ends so I just put in our sheet!

Great! We can put that down for Books, then I'll count Paragraph Ranch for Farm.

I believe that counts as a made up word. If not, let me know and I'll keep looking...

I went ahead and added it to the planning spreadsheet. If that works, then I think I have my weekend reading all planned!

message 218: by Billie-Jade (new)

Billie-Jade | 54 comments I have moved “butterfly: from refugee” to in the ocean prompt as I looked at the cover and it fits and added five survive to the vehicle one. Hope this is ok?

message 219: by Lina (last edited Aug 09, 2024 12:57PM) (new)

Lina | 823 comments So as far as I can tell we have:

Singles:
Nationality (covered by Lynn)
Made Up Word (Lynn)
Tools (not yet covered)
Temperatur (not yet covered)
Famous Landmark (not yet covered, possibly Terry Jane? If you were planning on reading the one you mentioned earlier?)

Doubles:
Office (not covered)
Books (Lynn and Alina)
Ocean (Malibu Rising/ Starfish Sisters / Butterfly) - maybe one can be moved to a different prompt?

Triples:
Farm (2x TerryJane, one still open)
Restaurant (2x TerryJane and Lynn)
School (2x Lynn, one still open)

Did I forget something?

I could either keep reading my book for the tools prompt; or switch and look for one for either Farm or School? (unless someone is already reading those?)
Or, Lynn, if those are too many books to finish I can cover the made up word one if you want?

Or I could read of mice and men for the farm prompt?

Which makes this the updated version:

Nationality (Lynn: All American Boys)
Made Up Word (Lynn: The Guncle)
Tools (Lina: The Secret Garden (after moving it and replacing it with the one I am currently reading))
Temperature (not yet covered)
Famous Landmark (not yet covered, possibly Terry Jane? If you were planning on reading the one you mentioned earlier?)

Doubles:
Office (not covered)
Books (Lynn: Murder Past Due and Alina: The Wishing Game)
Ocean (Malibu Rising/ Starfish Sisters / Butterfly) - maybe one can be moved to a different prompt?

Triples:
Farm (TerryJane: O Pioneers and Paragraph Ranch, Carrie: ?)
Restaurant (TerryJane: Beachfront Bakery and Tales From the Cafe and Lynn: Before the Coffee Gets Cold)
School (Lynn: The Accused and The Accomplice, Lina: I hate you more (which I am sure I will strongly dislike but is short and free))

Great summary, Lina. Thanks for doing that! 🤗

Yes, I can cover Landmark. I finished Murderous Macaron already and the others I've selected are quite short.

All: There are several books on the planning sheet that are still marked Currently Reading. Be sure to add those in the non-prompt area if they don't fit anywhere. Even if you don't finish them, we can collect page points. Plus, if you put, say, 50 pages in the daily tracking one day, but didn't finish the book and add it to a prompt, those 50 pages will need to be captured somewhere so that the grand totals match up.

Also, if anybody has an unallocated weapon, we could potentially put it in place of Lina's Murtagh, move Murtagh to Mythical Creature, and move Second Grave on the Left to the bonus single Tool. The reaper on its cover is holding a scythe, which is an agricultural tool.

===

EDIT: Mansi's blue Mythos cover shows one of the gods using a bow. There's the weapon we need to cover Tool. (See above.)

P.S. Lina, I missed that you had a plan for Tool in your latest post. Hmm...

message 223: by Lina (last edited Aug 09, 2024 03:14PM) (new)

Lina | 823 comments I can stop pushing to finish that one then and move to another, that is fine. Ill go for the temperature prompt then instead

Nationality (Lynn: All American Boys)
Made Up Word (Lynn: The Guncle)
Tools (Mansi: Mythos)
Temperature (Lina: Death by hot apple cider)
Famous Landmark (Terry Jane: In Five Years)

Doubles:
Office (Billie Jade: Love Unwritten and missing one more book )
Books (Lynn: Murder Past Due and Alina: The Wishing Game)
Ocean (Malibu Rising/ Starfish Sisters / Butterfly) - maybe one can be moved to a different prompt?

Triples:
Farm (TerryJane: O Pioneers and Paragraph Ranch, Carrie: ?)
Restaurant (TerryJane: Beachfront Bakery and Tales From the Cafe and Lynn: Before the Coffee Gets Cold)
School (Lynn: The Accused and The Accomplice, Lina: I hate you more)

So we are just missing 1 book for office :) Everything else is already covered.

Does this work for everyone? Or does someone have too many books to read?

message 224: by Billie-Jade (new)

Billie-Jade | 54 comments I am reading Love Unwritten which can cover the office prompt as it has letters and envelopes on the cover which would be found in an office.

message 225: by Lina (new)

Lina | 823 comments Okay, nice, I will add that to my comment above yours! :) Then we are just missing one book for office.

message 226: by Mansi V (new)

Mansi V | 236 comments Ah thanks for organising the new prompts! Instead of One Swallow Does Not Make a Summer I can read Quicksand which has a book on the cover which could work for office?

message 227: by TerryJane, Challenges (new)

TerryJane | 4026 comments Mansi, are you still reading Mythos? I put a placeholder for that to go in Gods/Deities, and moved Failure is not an Option to office.

message 228: by TerryJane, Challenges (last edited Aug 09, 2024 04:55PM) (new)

TerryJane | 4026 comments I ended up losing one of the Weapons while moving things around to cover gods, tools, etc.

===

If nobody has a weapon hidden in their Currently Reading books, I can sneak in an extra cozy.

message 229: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 348 comments I definitely can read at least one more but I don't care what prompt. Just please tell me which one because I have some driving to do tonight and will find something to listen to. The Farm book I have is not audio so I need to start something else.

Mansi V | 236 comments TerryJane wrote: "Mansi, are you still reading Mythos? I put a placeholder for that to go in Gods/Deities, and moved Failure is not an Option to office."

Yeah, I'm still reading it! Will hopefully finish tomorrow or definitely by Sunday. Just finished It Happened One Summer but just trying to find a place for it to go

message 231: by Mansi V (new)

Mansi V | 236 comments TerryJane wrote: "I ended up losing one of the Weapons while moving things around to cover gods, tools, etc."

If we move Failure is not an Option back to deities, I can put Mythos in gods tomorrow and then put Quicksand which I plan on reading over the weekend to Office?

message 232: by Mansi V (new)

Mansi V | 236 comments I will put It Happened One Summer into non-prompt books for now

I moved Failure back to Deities. Did you mean Mythos in Weapons, and Quicksand in Office?

message 234: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 348 comments I am starting an office book. I will add titles to sheet later. So, to recap, I am reading an office book and a farm book.

Are you unable to do the farm prompt then? If everyone reads what they've planned, we won't need a specific book. You can just listen to whatever you enjoy and just add it for the page points. Drive safely!

Ah! Our messages were virtually at the same time.

I have never seen readathon spreadsheets set up this way before...and I must admit I am not a fan.

I may need help getting my head around all this accounting for pages read in books not finished. Fair warning!! LOL 😃

message 237: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments I'm anxious to see how many books I can complete tomorrow. I know I'll get at least 2, but would love to get the 3 shorter ones done. Time will tell!

Happy reading to finish the bonus prompts!! YAY!!

message 238: by Lina (last edited Aug 10, 2024 03:45AM) (new)

Lina | 823 comments Do you guys think It happend one summer could be moved to elements (there being water on the cover - hence an element?) - if so, we could move The Burning God to the weapons prompt

Also, Carrie and Billie-Jade both said they will be reading office books - so I feel like we are already set in that category?
Also, Norine read a book for that one according to the spreadsheet.

Lynn - is there any category you think you might not be able to finish (you seem to have a pretty high number of books to cover)?

message 239: by TerryJane, Challenges (new)

TerryJane | 4026 comments Lina -- Yes! Thanks for finding that option. I was hoping there was a weapon somewhere. I moved them.

Norine -- We haven't heard from you in so long. Good to see you! The planning tab shows your Daughter of the Siren Queen as complete and two others still say TBR. Since your daily page numbers have been climbing, I thought you must be reading something. Please be sure to add your remaining pages/books to the non-prompt area this weekend. Or, if you are reading something to fill one of the prompts, please let the team know in the discussion and spreadsheet.

Lynn -- This group is the only place I've done readathons, so I have no knowledge of setups for non-Goodreads readathons, or for those run by other groups. Team readathons here always have space for daily accounting at the top, as well as below for specific books/prompts. In the past, they were more complex, with the daily area having both pages and audio hours, and the lower section having extra columns for audio hours and a formula to convert hours to pages.

The new spreadsheet feels much simpler to me, except for some sort of jumpy thing that happens when scrolling down a column on the planning tab. I suspect it's related to merged cells for the grayed out areas.

After the readathon (I know you have lots of reading left at the moment), please elaborate on how readathons in other groups or on other websites set up their spreadsheets differently/better. I'd be happy to pass it on to bailey for future reference. Or, perhaps you can give her specifics about the differences in a post-readathon survey.

As for me, I added the last Restaurant triple and the Famous landmark is currently underway.

Lina | 823 comments Looks like you're making rapid progress on your tbr TerryJane! :)

Progress post:

Nationality (Lynn: All American Boys ✅)
Made Up Word (Lynn: The Guncle)
Tools (TerryJane: Second Grave on the Left ✅)
Temperature (Lina: Death by hot apple cider ✅)
Famous Landmark (Terry Jane: In Five Years)

Doubles:
Office (Norine: 19 Minuten ✅ and Billie Jade: Love Unwritten / Carrie: Rock Paper Scissors)
Books (Lynn: Murder Past Due and Alina: The Wishing Game)
Ocean (Starfish Sisters / Butterfly) ✅

Triples:
Farm (TerryJane: O Pioneers ✅ and Where There Was Fire and Carrie: The Reckoning)
Restaurant (TerryJane: Beachfront Bakery and Tales From the Cafe and Lynn: Before the Coffee Gets Cold) ✅
School (Lynn: The Accused and The Accomplice, Lina: I hate you more ✅)

Total tbr books to complete prompts: 9

We have finished our first bonus prompt triple already! :)
Anyone not sure whether they will finish their book? I am done with mine and could look for something for another prompt (else I will just read something else for pages).

message 241: by TerryJane, Challenges (new)

TerryJane | 4026 comments Go, team Caught Read-Handed!

Not that it makes a difference, but I changed my mind on the farm book. I will be reading Where There Was Fire instead of The Paragraph Ranch. There's a banana planation on the cover, and it was already on my 2024 TBR for a couple of yearly challenges.

message 242: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 348 comments I finally got my progress updated in both the spreadsheet and my progress post. I am sorry if the prompts I claimed yesterday were ones that someone else already had covered. I was helping my daughter move yesterday and trying to check in here was confusing since everything was moving fast and furious so I may have misunderstood what was needed or looked at the wrong place trying to figure out what was still needed.

I did not get very many pages in yesterday, only what I got while driving, but have the rest of the weekend to focus and I already have good progress on my books this morning.

My current books are added in my progress post and the spreadsheet but if we needed them here too:

The Reckoning for Farm

and

Rock Paper Scissors for Office

but as always move them around if needed.

message 243: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments Finished The Accused and will finish The Accomplice this afternoon, finishing the SCHOOL triple! YAY!

Then I'm going to see if I can finish Murder Past Due yet this evening for the first of the BOOKS double. I will definitely finish The Guncle tomorrow and should have more reading time after that, just in case we need something fulfilled at the last minute!!

We have done so very well!! Happy reading!
