message 53: by Theresa, Readathons (last edited Jul 31, 2024 12:26PM) (new)

Theresa | 847 comments I haven't decided on my 3rd (or potentially 4th) readathon book(s). I thought I'd wait until I've at least started my 2nd book, to decide. I thought choosing my other book(s) later could be beneficial to the team, if we're missing specific prompts.
I am purposely choosing shorter than my normal page counts, for the most part, in an attempt to fill more prompts. (Even if it's only 1 more)
I normally read 3-4 books, in a month, so reading them in 10 days is quite the accomplishment for me. 🙂

I think you will do great!

message 55: by Theresa, Readathons (new)

Theresa | 847 comments Hi, Blagica. Thank you for the encouragement!

I just wanted to offer my reasons for not having added more books to the spreadsheet yet.

Maybe we'll get our new name soon. The readathon starts in just over 26 hours for me.

Good luck, everyone!

message 56: by Lisa (last edited Jul 31, 2024 11:11PM) (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Blagica, Carmen, and Shari,
Could you all specify your team name, from between the 4 choices, please? So we are in agreeance of what I'll be sending bailey today 😊

We've got :
Spy Masters
Spies like us
Novel Navigators
Literary Detectives

I'm leaning towards Literary Detectives aswell, despite my heart wanting an alliteration.

message 57: by Carmen (new)

Carmen | 8125 comments Hola!
First of all I want to thank everyone who sent me condolences, I heartily appreciate it 🤗
As for our team name, its' a tough one...I like all the candidates, I prefer any of the "spy" related but if the majority decide otherwise, I vote for Literary Detectives.
Are you ready?

message 58: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments I just realized that we have two spy-themed names and two more bookish centered ones.

message 59: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2386 comments I am fine to go with Spy Masters if everyone prefers a Spy related name.

message 60: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2386 comments Lisa, I see you put my name only for the proper title prompt. But only two books highlighted in green. Can you confirm the third one? I think it is Kings of Scars but want to make sure. Thanks
Planning almost finish 🙀

message 61: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Lorraine,
Sorry! I completely missed it. I'll mark it once I'm, back home, and if you don't get to it, I have one I can add as backup with "emperor" in the title.

message 62: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments It's currently almost 2pm here in Denmark, the clock is rapidly tick-tick-ticking down to the 2nd, and I'm so freaking excited!

Looking forward to starting this readathon soon, and reading with all of you!

No problem. Green added. I will read it and also add it to my planning.

message 65: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Hey Team
Are you guys ready to get started?!
Does anyone have any questions about the tracking tab?

FYI, There are some books that I'm not marking at the moment, because they fill many options, so I just want to wait and see where people go with their reading, and then we can move them around to best fit us.

Btw, I hid the rows for the bonus prompts since it's not applicable to us at the moment. We can always recall them back at a later time, if we complete all the normal tasks first. This will also make it easier to fill in any non-prompt books in the designated space.

Also!
Just in case, anyone is thinking of not picking a book because another member has listed it, here's a friendly reminder that we are allowed to read the same books for this readathon. They won't necessarily count for the prompts (unless you can fit it in somewhere) but they'll still add pages to our total, which is always a plus.
And, to reiterate, DNFs count, as do books that don't fall under any of the prompts, and books that are under 100 pages!
They won't count for any the prompts (obviously) but they'll still add pages to our total :) So no need to shy away from them :)

Lastly, this goes without saying, but I want to say it anyway before anyone gets caught up in the competitive spirit (aka. me ): Please remember: to have a great time and enjoy your reads. It's supposed to be fun! I know we're trying to collaborate towards a collective goal here, but don't feel obligated to read something just to fill a prompt, if you're just not feeling it, okay? It's okay to DNF, and it's okay to change your mind.

Okay wait, hang on. Is the choice actually between Spy Masters and Literary Detectives? Or was someone leaning towards one of the other two?

Blagica and Shari, we need your input to actually make a cutthroat choice 😀

We're up against teams "Caught Read-Handed" and " Biblio-spies:", which are both kind of the best of both worlds, in terms of spy vs. book-related.
So the question is really whether we want to go in the same direction.

Castigo
Una jaula de oro
Tomorrow I hope I can finish some of them.
My progress in message #38

message 73: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2386 comments Like Carmen, I have started some books so I have less pages to read to fulfill our prompts. I hope to start another book tonight. My reading plan is done. Now, let's hope all goes well. 😊
If yes, I should have room in the last 2 days to add a book or two, as long as they are short books.
I hope to finish 2 books tomorrow!

Let's go Team! We can do it!

message 74: by Lisa (last edited Aug 01, 2024 02:13PM) (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments *sings* It's the final countdown! 🎶
It'll be August 2nd here in about 45 minutes, which means I'll get to get some reading done before falling asleep. I'm thinking I'll start with blue books since they're the fastest.

I wanted to wish everyone a great first day of reading. I cant wait to see what everyone is reading and their progress tomorrow!

message 78: by Carmen (last edited Aug 02, 2024 01:14AM) (new)

Carmen | 8125 comments Good morning!
I have a doubt with translating hours into pages, at first I thought we have to use the most popular edition in the same language but I've just realize it's the hardcover edition what we have to use, but if the audiobook I'm listening to doesn't have a hardcover edition published in the required language, what do I do?
For example:
Una jaula de oro in Spanish, we can only find it in paperback, kindle, or audiobook edition
El despertar de los dragones is published in Spanish in kindle and in audiobook.
So what edition I have to use to count pages?
(BTW, I'm about to finish my first audiobook 😉)

Great question, Carmen!
I'm actually not quite sure, since it's a new way of calculating audiobook hours. I'll post it on the Q&A thread, and get back to you ASAP😊

message 80: by Lisa (last edited Aug 02, 2024 04:23AM) (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Carmen ,
Here's the answer bailey provided to your question:
"If possible, default to the most popular paperback edition. If that is not an option, the kindle page could should give a more accurate page number than the audiobook (I think those typically say 1 page). "
If neither of these options work, we are to use the old equation of 15hours = 1,000 pages. In which case, please remember to track the time you spend listening and not the length of the audiobook, if you listen at a speed greater than 1x.

message 81: by Lisa (last edited Aug 02, 2024 04:28AM) (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Creed, if you could please add the books you plan to read, as soon as you can. And X them according to which prompt they could qualify for, aswell :)
Thank you!

If you (or anyone else) need any help or have questions, please let me know 😊

message 82: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2386 comments Lisa. When you have time, can you confirm I added my two finished books the way it is expected? Really not urgent.

I am taking the evening off, but hope to finish another book tomorrow.

Way to go, Lorraine! If you could add the number of pages/hours, on the tracking tab, that would be great. And also remember to track daily on the page tracking 😊

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Hey Literary Dectectives!

Just thought I'd check in 😊
How is everyone getting along on the first day of reading? I hope you're having fun and reading some good books.

It seems as though we've had a good start, and the spreadsheet is looking good so far. Just please remember to type-in all the book information (book length / audio book length) in the prompts table (Tracking Tab) , once you finish the book, so we can awarded get all the points we deserve ✨

I'll be finishing The Fake Wedding Project before bed so I will insert the information for it as an example :)

If anyone has problems with editing the spreadsheet, let me know, or post it here, and one of us can do it for you :)

Have a great weekend and happy reading!
Can't wait to see what everybody will be reading next! 📚

Thank you Lisa. Do you prefer we do not complete TAB 3 (Completed) ?

message 87: by Lisa (last edited Aug 02, 2024 01:34PM) (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Lorraine wrote: "... Do you prefer we do not complete TAB 3 (Completed) ?"

I was having technical difficulties transferring my book to that tab for whatever reason. Working on it.

But to answer your question, I'm actually not sure. We do have to fill it in before the end of the readathon, but I was thinking of whether it makes sense to do it now, in case there are any changes on the allocation of books later. I'm thinking on it. And I'll take a peek at what other teams are doing 😀

message 88: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments I can see all teams are just filling it in as they go, so let us do the same and fill it in upon completion. I can always double check that everything matches on all tabs at the end of the readathon.
