Chris was dominating the scrimmage. He had already scored 2 goals and was looking for more. His coach kept telling him to pass more, but he didn't see much point. The guys on his side weren't very good, and they lost the ball mostly. Finally, his coach hot mad and substituted for him. He sat down and drank some water.
Sorry I was too lazy to answer.Victoria ran up to the field, she was late for her only opportunity to try out for the team. She dropped her bag on the ground and checked in with the coach. She jogged around the field watching the game, cringing every time one of her future teammates received the ball. They were awful. She shook her head, hoping today was just an off day. When she made it back to the bench she stretched her muscles making sure to count to 15 before switching which stretch she did.
Chris was sitting on the bench watching her stretch. He wondered why a girl was stretching on the field during the boys practice. "The girls practice in the mornings," he said, trying to be helpful.It's fine.
"I know. But I value skill and aggressiveness over manicured nails and wether my head band makes my hair look bad," she snorted. "I can work with this," she said motioning to the train wreck of a team, "but shopping instead of practicing and squealing every time dirt touches their pretty little heads, not so much."
Chris smirked. "Then let's see it. We could use someone else to carry the burden." He turned to coach. "I think the new girl is ready coach."
"Prick," she muttered under her breath. The coach subbed her in and she immediately focused on the task at hand. She cracked her neck and was ready. "Here!" she called for the ball. The guy looked confused but kicked it to her anyway. She ran up the right sideline and flawlessly weaved around defenders as they one by one ran to meet her. Soon it was a one on one with the keeper and she tapped the ball into the bottom right corner. She turned and winked at the boy on the bench with a smirk reaching her face.
Chris chuckled to himself. "Finally, we've got someone decent." He waved at her. "Coach, sub me back in." The coach nodded and put him in at midfield. He jogged over by her. "Teamwork."
"I hear the word isn't in your vocabulary," Victoria said. "But if you feel like broadening your horizons from ball hog to team player then sure," she added.
Chris shrugged. "If there is someone decent, I'll give them the ball. Looks like there is now, so let's see what two can do."
"Decent isn't how I would describe me Hun," Victoria said, her ego shining through. "But if you think you can keep up, let's see what we can do," she said with confidence.
"Someone might poke a hole in that ego," Chris said grinning. Then, as the game started back up, he stayed at midfield, waiting for a really good opportunity.
Victoria rolled her eyes and ran up to where the ball was bouncing around between people. She winced as the ball was continuously missed. This team was a mess, she wondered if they had ever been coached properly.
As the ball finally bumbled to Chris, he smiled and went to work, weaving through the defenders. He was do much faster than them. He looked up and saw Victoria, then lobbed a pass over the heads of the defenders, to where she would be of she knew the game.
Victoria had seen Chris get the ball and immediately ran with him. She saw the lofty pass coming and brought it down to her feet. She dribbled down the side line a little farther and crossed the ball back to him, giving him the perfect opportunity to head the ball into the goal.
Chris saw the ball coming back on a cross, and slightly overran it, causing him to turn around and do a bicycle kick. It flew into the net. He got up grinning and looked for Victoria.
Victoria wondered if she was supposed to be impressed. She gave him a nod of approval. She wasn't sure if she liked having someone as good as her on a team. She wasn't one to share the spotlight.
He nodded to her as he ran over. "Good pass." He wondered if she was going to be a goal scorer as well. They needed another one.
"I know," she winked. She started to step away but turned to look at him. "But really thank you. Nice goal," she smiled this time.
"Maybe we can actually beat some teams this year." He grinned widely and ran off, hearing the complaints of their other teammates.
((I'm skipping to the end of the game because I can.))At the end of the game Victoria sat on the bench sipping from her water bottle. The rest of her team had left but she had to wait for her ride. She stared absent mindlessly at her phone scrolling through, criticizing people as she did so.
((You do that))Chris just came out of the locker room, clean and wearing clean clothes. He saw Victoria and walked over. "Need a ride?"
"Oh no. Thank you though. My frie-," she started but looked down at her phone when it buzzed. "I guess I'll be walking," she said reading the message saying her friend wasn't coming anyway. She grabbed her bag that had her dirty soccer stuff and started walking. "Today was fun, thanks for not sucking," she said after she was a couple steps away.
Chris followed behind her. "That's what I specialize in," he said with a smirk. "Anyways if your friend isn't coming, then you might as well accept my offer."
A soft laugh escaped Victoria's lips. "Nice one. I can walk. Where I'm living isn't too far away," she lied but knew Chris wouldn't know. She didn't like taking people's offers, she was too stubborn.
Chris sighed. "Whatever. have fun walking." He walked off and started to get into his matte black corvette. His family was very well off so Chris got a lot of expensive stuff.
Victoria thought about the way home and opened her mouth to accept the offer. "Chris?" she said hoping he heard her.
Chris looked was just about to close the door when he heard her. He smirked, knowing what she was about to say. "Yes?"
Where did that "looked" come from))
She looked at him, "can I actually get that ride?"
Chris leaned over and opened the passenger door. "Hop in," he said, concealing a grin.
She walked over to the car and set her bag down on the floor. She slid into the passenger seat and buckled her seat belt. After she told him where to go she sat quietly and looked out the window.
Chris nodded and started the ignition. He grinned as the engine purred and he pulled out, heading for her house. "So what brings you to our lovely little town?"
"Freedom," she said simply. The story was deeper of course but that was the gist. "I just needed away," she shrugged. She twisted the ends of her hair out of habit then looked at him. "What do you want to do with your life?" she asked.
He shrugged. "I'm trying to get into college in England and afterwards try to make a team there."
"England? Why there?" she wondered.
"That's where the best teams are," Chris said. "Also I speak the language already."
Victoria laughed, "you sure are a funny one." She saw her house come into view and grabbed her bag so she would be ready. "Thanks for the ride," she smiled.
Chris smirked. "See at school tomorrow." once she got out, he headed to his admittedly huge house.
