Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments I've been watching the Convention for three days and wondering if you guys have any opinions.

Ian Miller | 1857 comments I haven't watched it, but think Trump now has the GOP in his hands and I think the convention was sufficiently successful that it will take a titanic effort from the Dems to be competitive, let alone win. But I suppose anything could happen to change that.

J.J. Mainor | 2440 comments Have only seen a few small bits and pieces, but the most striking thing is that to me, Trump looks like a different person. He's still trying to play the showman. It looks and sounds like he's trying to put forward the same bravado, but you can just see it on him, that the shooting has sucked it all out of him.

Ian Miller | 1857 comments Maybe, but I think he is just trying to look reasonable at the convention. I think we shall see the return of the old one rather soon, but whether I am right, we shall see.

Barbara | 510 comments I thought Alina Habba, Tucker Carlson, Charlie Kirk, Madeline Brame, Ric Grenell and the Gold Star families were very effective, and I really like JD Vance. I remember reading "Hillbilly Elegy" when it first came out and thought it was a terrific book, though I wasn't sure it could be made into a movie.
I liked Vance's tribute to his mom in the audience, and the anecdote about clearing out Mamaw's house after she passed.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments I liked the WWII vet who said he would sign up again if Trump were president. Also, the mom whose son died from a fentanyl overdose by taking one pill to try to fit in with his peers, and now lobbies against open borders that are controlled by the cartels. And the brother of the woman who was raped and killed while jogging by an illegal immigrant. Those personal stories leave a lasting impression.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments J.J., Trump held a rally a week after the shooting, and there was no cowering, although one has to know that standing before that crowd had to trigger flashbacks. He spoke well, laying out his intentions as president, and he made me laugh several times. The shooting hasn't sucked anything out of him, at least nothing that shows. This guy doesn't let anything stop him, as evidenced by his going through the Dems' unjust lawfare and coming out strong. As evidenced by being shot and standing up and raising his fist, shouting "fight, fight, fight." You have to admire his toughness, even if you don't like him.
