Sophie | 116 comments The Grishaverse, start with Shadow and Bone trilogy, then Six Of Crows duology, then, King Of Scars duology, plus there are other side books!

Percy Jackson, although that would count as mythology. But it has more world building than Harry Potter, and he spends time in both worlds equally.

Inês | 0 comments Maybe "The Invisibile Life of Addie LaRue"? It's mostly fantasy but I think it fits both things at the same time.

It's my favourite book of all time!

Malissa (malissa1578) | 163 comments Look into more urban fantasy authors. Examples: Hailey Edwards, Annette Marie, Meghan Ciana Doidge, KF Breene, Molly Harper type of authors... If you are specifically looking for YA urban fantasy than look into Cassandra Clare, Rick Riordan, Leia Stone, Shannon Mayer, Leigh Bardugo... I am sure there a few I am not thinking of.

Fabula | 3 comments Interesting that you brought up this topic, because I'm working on a series that is exactly this—a series about a girl's wish for superpowers to become real causing people throughout the world to gain superpowers—and my first book in the series, Exceptional, was published a couple of months ago.

That said, I'm currently reading The Reckoners series by Brandon Sanderson and would say it's one such series that's like this, where people gain superpowers out of nowhere but end up becoming murderous evildoers, leading a group of ragtag gunmen known as The Reckoners to study them try to take them down (like the Amazon show The Boys, but much less cynical and not as ultraviolent). The first book takes place in a dystopian version of Chicago, and I believe the second takes place in New York City. Just finished up the first book and already can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Nat | 141 comments The Hazel Wood series by Melissa Albert, fair warning I thought the second book and the side story were better than the first book, but still a good series
