message 30: by Oana (new)

Oana Thompson | 1 comments I’ve deliberated this many times. While I was never one that could focus or pay attention as someone else was reading and I’m just listening, I do have some graphic audio that I listen to and sometimes follow along with as I’m reading. It doesn’t build the same world in my head listening to someone else read, it’s still enjoyable though and as long as you’re paying attention it should still count.

message 31: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 27 comments it counts as the concept of “reading” but not “reading” like a verb

message 32: by Hanna (new)

Hanna Camille | 26 comments Yes, most definitely. This is 2024. Time is a most valuable resource, so if you can do 2 or 3 things at once, more power to you. Audiobooks allow us to do just that. It is only because of audiobooks that the hours of cooking that I must endure daily have become bearable.

message 33: by Lexi (last edited Jul 14, 2024 07:35AM) (new)

Lexi (lexi_gambrill) I would say: ABSOLUTELY!!!
Personally, I started reading audiobooks alongside their physical book counterparts (especially for my fantasy book) & MY LIFE HAS CHANGED FOREVER!!!
It’s like the narrator knows how to bring the world & the characters alive better than my own imagination could if I read the book for myself!!!
So yes, AN AUDIOBOOK COUNTS AS A READ BOOK!!!
Having someone else read a book to us is how many of us started to learn how to read as a kid anyway. Why not enjoy such a relaxing process as an adult!!!

message 35: by Diana (new)

Diana Jaques | 134 comments There is a definition of reading that says 'Reading is the process of taking in the sense or meaning of letters, symbols, etc., especially by sight or touch.'

However, when you listen to an audio book you are still taking it in through one of the main senses, so I suppose you could say its reading.

message 36: by Izzati (new)

Izzati (izzatiidrus) | 10 comments Yes. You're just borrowing a narrator's voice instead of using the voice in your head to go through the book.

message 37: by marie (new)

marie | 2 comments yes! you still digest the book and know what happens in it!

message 38: by Bernie4444 (new)

Bernie4444 | 23 comments Yes. I used to listen to audiobooks in the car on long daily commutes. I have to admit that I also read the books afterward.

Now I am lazy and purchase Kindle books with Text-to-Speak and use the Kindle print book to see what is mispronounced or how to spell. The ones I like most are followed up with the purchase of a hardback.

message 49: by Shreya (new)

Shreya | 18 comments It isn't exactly "reading" but since we're still absorbing the same story and information. So, in that sense, I think it counts.

message 50: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 71 comments Absolutely yes!! I read both physical and audiobooks and the audiobook experience really enhances my enjoyment of what I’m reading.
