Liz Lesme de storino | 7 comments I am going crazy trying to remember the title of this book to see if the second book is out yet! Here is what I remember:
A woman was sent to an asylum because she killed (literally disassembled her baby boy) with a knife. Her father was wealthy and it was determined that such lady must be mad to commit such a crime. Thus, instead of the death penalty, she was sent to an asylum. At the beginning of the story, the reader believes that this person is truly mad, she talks about been in a yellow room, vomits, hurts the nurses, ect. Eventually, the woman gets better and is sent home to her husband. BUT, we then discover that she never killed her son! she had killed a poor woman's baby boy and had sent her own child somewhere else. I believe that only the French lady who always took her (the main character's mother had died when she was a little girl) of her is the only one who knows about what actually happened. Towards the end of the book, the French lady and this "mad" woman are in their carriage going to see the baby who is still alive, and the mother of the poor baby that was murdered runs to catch up and begs to have her son back. Apparently she received money for her son but she was under the belief that this rich woman would actually take good care of her son.

Anyways, the woman was married to some guy who was poor and I believe that he was with her only because of the money. This guys father is a rascal who is trying to manipulate his son to give him money. Otherwise, he will tell the rich society who his son really is....

I hope this message makes some sense!!! I have been going crazy trying to remember the title!

Thank you!

L.

Michele | 2488 comments Hi Liz --

When did you read this book? Do you recall if it was a new book at the time, or an older one? Given the content I assume the book was aimed at adults, but do you recall anything about the cover, whether it was hardback or paperback? Do you recall when and/or where the book was set (e.g., 1950s America, 1850s England)? Do you recall how old the main character was?

Liz Lesme de storino | 7 comments I read this book through my Kindle. The book was recommended last year by Goodreads either in April or May so I believe it was a new release. The woman was probably in her 20s but there are flashbacks on her being a young girl who loved to read and girls were not supposed to read at the time.
