I wish I could join y'all this month, but on Libby, my library doesn't have Shadowcast, and I doubt I'll get to go to the library this month... :(

You guys, this book has a new author feel so far, but I was just blown away by this chapter.

Wow, you're pretty far into the book already, Sharon!
I'm only on the second chapter, but I have been thinking the writing style feels very "new author", as you put it. That won't bother me too much if the story is engaging, though!

The other reason is the ending. It’s wonderfully told! It loses that “stilting” feel and leaves you breathless. (Despite some switching of POV here and there.🤭)

I still haven't started. I've got two chapters left of an audiobook I was in the middle of, and I was planning on finishing that before starting Shadowcast.

This theme comes up several times in Mason’s POVs.
About 25% done and enjoying it thus far. It does have a debut / new author feel to it, but then I also see peeks of more experience come through. And I’m still enjoying it, not to mention the purple cover is so gorgeous-!

I read the first chapter and part of the second last night. Then it froze up for some reason. *shrugs* Anyway, I'll prob read more tonight. It's kinda giving me The Blades of Acktar vibes. I'm not sure what I think of the allegorical stuff yet.

Wow Sharon! That 2 Peter reference really does fit! I’m almost halfway and enjoying it so far. I agree it gives me Blades of Acktar vibes but this has actual fantasy and allegory and I felt BoA seemed more literal. ( I did enjoyed BoA very much though). I am loving the fantasy elements here and want to see more of the magic system!

I've now read 6 chapters. The Blades of Acktar vibes continue. :)I've gotta say, I have a hard time taking a book or character seriously that uses the word angst. Is that wierd?
As for Dreeya... please tell me that she isn't the only female warrior in this. She is a warrior, right? I was a little confused on the whole scout thing.

I've now read 9 chapters... I think lol.
Here's the status update I made last night (I believe I've read around 17 chapters)"Most girls her age were giggling, small-minded girls who relied on their parents for every need and want, until they found a man to take care of them. None would be able to survive on their own, much less care for an invalid."
*deep breaths* Really? Are you sure about that? Maybe a lot of those girls are just trying to fit the mold of what they're told they should be.

Ikik, but...I'm just worried because lots of time books make it out like the FMC is "different," when they're just making all the other females seem, well...
And borderline sexism seems like a problem in a lot of Christian Fiction for some reason.
