Drace (dracenines) | 7373 comments This is kind of a bizarre situation, so before I tried to make a thread about the issue, I wanted to get librarian input.

The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II is a history book about war crimes committed by the Japanese military in WWII. It was published in 1997, and there appears to be an edition of the book listed on Goodreads that is not, in fact, Chang's book.

Rape Of Nanjing And The Politics Of Public Memory - This book is attributed to Iris Chang, but it has a completely different title that Chang's book was never published under and was published by a completely separate publisher. When I did some research into what that ISBN was, I discovered that this appears to be a book by an academic named Daqing Yang. The librarian edits confirm this - in 2013, a librarian actively went out of her way to change the author from Daqing Yang to Iris Chang for reasons that are beyond me.

So, how would the librarians handle getting this book completely separated from Iris Chang's book and moved back over to Daqing Yang?

I cannot find any further information on this book outside of a secondhand Amazon listing, but the ISBN is present on that Amazon page. I could attempt to reach out to the publisher if more information is needed, and additionally, Daqing Yang does have contact information listed on his page on the website for the college where he works, so attempting to reach out to him for information on the book is also a possibility.

Thanks for any and all help with this. I know it's an odd situation.

minzi | 388 comments Hello,

interesting case ... I do agree with you (and assume that after the change of author, there was unfortunately also added a wrong cover, which was confusing me very much at first). But I could neither find any other information. Just leaving this comment so someone else might have a look at it as well :-)

Drace (dracenines) | 7373 comments Giving this another bump to get more eyes on it. I e-mailed the publisher and they have no record of ever publishing this book, so I think e-mailing Daqing Yang himself might be the next step if librarians are unsure how to proceed.
