I think we would all understand if you locked the thread while you are working through it. That's actually what I did to my team's private tracking thread. While other admins could access, they won't, don't want to in truth, and no one else can.
You unlock it when done.

Jeez, I didn't even think of that! Wait - but it's a folder. Can you lock an entire folder?

And Jgrace wrote: "Just so you know, Cindy, I look at these lists frequently. I really appreciate all of the time you put into it."
it's good to know they do, at least once in a while, by someone, get used. :-)

I believe you can - pretty sure I have done so -- just test it out on any folder - if it locks, you can always unlock whatever folder you are testing.

This is great. Thank you, Theresa. I will give it a try next time.

(Unless one of the other admins decided to "highlight" the thread due to the astounding number of books we read last month? LOL!)

Is there a way for mods to sort a folder by original date?

Thank you, Nancy. It does help a little bit. I still take time to check to make sure they are there and tagged properly. But it does go faster if that's already done.
Some people do already add their books.
We have an old thread that explains adding your own books. I'll provide the link here if you want to look through it.
The most "important" parts of the thread are probably the first post (explaining what we add to the shelf) and the (currently) last post, which is me providing a step-by-step as to how to do it
[ETA: that "last" message right now that I am referring to is #57]):

That all being said, no one has to. Only if you want to. But thank you for those who are interested in giving it a try.

"books with friends" is obvious.
And, of course, the month tag/shelf is what you would expect.
(You might notice for Debut I have also added "debutz" as a shelf, as well. That's because we've done "debut" once already. For stats, I will add July's books to both shelves, then later delete the one with the z added. NOTE that you don't have to do this! Just add it to debut and all will be good. Most tags we have not done before, so this doesn't happen often and is an anomaly.)

I just added the Europe tag to Eyre Affair since I knew the book would already be it there. It already had steeplechase and BWF tags. I’ll send you a pm to let you know when I’ve done anything else. I’ll do a bunch at a time.

A lot of the credit/blame goes to the Mods who dreamed up the BWF game, which incentivizes reading a lot for the tag. Plus Steeplechase has an incentive for it too. I know I have read a lot more for the tag than I ordinarily would.

Thanks for adding this Cindy, I notice it is not being done in the monthly announcement. I noticed a awhile ago that the proper tags to use are not being clarified monthly. When I remember, which honestly is not too often, to do my own shelfing I sometimes have a hard time relying on my instinct as to where the books go. If you could make sure this is added to The Monthly Tag Announcement it would help me remember pitch in, and perhaps others too.

Nancy, can I just confirm that you are only adding books you've read for "Europe", correct? And/or for BWF and Steeplechase? Thank you!
I do it all at once. I usually try to get it done the first or second weekend of the following month.
ETA: I can't do it during the month while reviews are still being added otherwise they are out of order and I don't know what I've added and what I haven't.

Thank you, Robin. And yes, I agree.. it's the year long games (it seems moreso this year!) that add to it!

Hi, Joanne. I don't do the monthly tag announcement, but all you need to remember is the tag. That's the shelf you need to put it under (if you so desire and remember to add it to the shelf) is the shelf for the tag.
Does that make sense?
Thank you!
ETA: Don't worry about the year long challenges and if you don't remember at all, that's ok, too!

I did some homework, and, leaving room for error, we had 52 unique members post for "Crime" in May, averaging 7.2 books per participant.
If there is a way to get the threads in Excel form, I don't mind going back and calculating unique participants.

Wow! That is an interesting (and crazy!? LOL!) number.
Thank you for figuring that out.
I don't know if GR has a way to export threads into Excel. Not sure if anyone else knows...?
This took multiple sessions. A combination of just how many books to shelve + I have been stupid-busy the past few weeks (month?)
ANYWAY... it's not often we get more than 200 books read in a month. We've done it three times already this year, including May (I believe all three are our top three, but don't quote me on that).
This was February and March:
March 2024: Coming of Age - 274 books read
February 2024: Authors of Color - 255 books read
In May, for "crime"... we read 378 unique titles.
