LibraryCin | 11663 comments THAT was a marathon! I don't like taking multiple sessions to do the shelving for a month tag because if anyone comments in between me working on it, it changes the order and I might miss something.

This took multiple sessions. A combination of just how many books to shelve + I have been stupid-busy the past few weeks (month?)

ANYWAY... it's not often we get more than 200 books read in a month. We've done it three times already this year, including May (I believe all three are our top three, but don't quote me on that).

This was February and March:
March 2024: Coming of Age - 274 books read
February 2024: Authors of Color - 255 books read

In May, for "crime"... we read 378 unique titles.

LibraryCin | 11663 comments Just did another look through, and yes. Those are our top 3 months since Goodreads. All this year.

Theresa | 15499 comments Holy $&%#! What a marathon for you! And that's just a stunning total!

I think we would all understand if you locked the thread while you are working through it. That's actually what I did to my team's private tracking thread. While other admins could access, they won't, don't want to in truth, and no one else can.

You unlock it when done.

Ellen | 3507 comments That was such a lot of work Cindy! What an amazing total of books. Good job and thanks for all you do.

Jeez, I didn't even think of that! Wait - but it's a folder. Can you lock an entire folder?

message 9: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11663 comments And I forgot to provide the link to the "crime" shelf:

LibraryCin | 11663 comments And thank you all for the encouragement.

it's good to know they do, at least once in a while, by someone, get used. :-)

I believe you can - pretty sure I have done so -- just test it out on any folder - if it locks, you can always unlock whatever folder you are testing.

This is great. Thank you, Theresa. I will give it a try next time.

message 15: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11663 comments Oops! Just noticed this ended up in the wrong folder. I usually put these in the folder with the tag they belong to. Will move it now.

(Unless one of the other admins decided to "highlight" the thread due to the astounding number of books we read last month? LOL!)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11060 comments Is there another way we can help you? If some of us posted our own books to the bookshelf would that help, or would that just confuse things?

Is there a way for mods to sort a folder by original date?

LibraryCin | 11663 comments NancyJ wrote: "Is there another way we can help you? If some of us posted our own books to the bookshelf would that help, or would that confuse things?"

Thank you, Nancy. It does help a little bit. I still take time to check to make sure they are there and tagged properly. But it does go faster if that's already done.

Some people do already add their books.

We have an old thread that explains adding your own books. I'll provide the link here if you want to look through it.

The most "important" parts of the thread are probably the first post (explaining what we add to the shelf) and the (currently) last post, which is me providing a step-by-step as to how to do it
[ETA: that "last" message right now that I am referring to is #57]):

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

That all being said, no one has to. Only if you want to. But thank you for those who are interested in giving it a try.

message 18: by LibraryCin (last edited Jun 23, 2024 07:17PM) (new)

LibraryCin | 11663 comments Thought I'd just add that the tag/shelf for Steeplechase is actually "pbt steeplechase".

"books with friends" is obvious.

And, of course, the month tag/shelf is what you would expect.

(You might notice for Debut I have also added "debutz" as a shelf, as well. That's because we've done "debut" once already. For stats, I will add July's books to both shelves, then later delete the one with the z added. NOTE that you don't have to do this! Just add it to debut and all will be good. Most tags we have not done before, so this doesn't happen often and is an anomaly.)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11060 comments Ok I’ll look through it. Do you usually do it throughout the month or wait until the end? I think I should be able to tell if I’m trying to post a book that has already been done, correct?

I just added the Europe tag to Eyre Affair since I knew the book would already be it there. It already had steeplechase and BWF tags. I’ll send you a pm to let you know when I’ve done anything else. I’ll do a bunch at a time.

message 20: by Robin P (last edited Jun 23, 2024 07:58PM) (new)

Robin P | 5728 comments Thank you, Cindy! There isn't really a requirement that this be done but people do appreciate it.

A lot of the credit/blame goes to the Mods who dreamed up the BWF game, which incentivizes reading a lot for the tag. Plus Steeplechase has an incentive for it too. I know I have read a lot more for the tag than I ordinarily would.

Thanks for adding this Cindy, I notice it is not being done in the monthly announcement. I noticed a awhile ago that the proper tags to use are not being clarified monthly. When I remember, which honestly is not too often, to do my own shelfing I sometimes have a hard time relying on my instinct as to where the books go. If you could make sure this is added to The Monthly Tag Announcement it would help me remember pitch in, and perhaps others too.

Nancy, can I just confirm that you are only adding books you've read for "Europe", correct? And/or for BWF and Steeplechase? Thank you!

I do it all at once. I usually try to get it done the first or second weekend of the following month.

ETA: I can't do it during the month while reviews are still being added otherwise they are out of order and I don't know what I've added and what I haven't.

Thank you, Robin. And yes, I agree.. it's the year long games (it seems moreso this year!) that add to it!

Hi, Joanne. I don't do the monthly tag announcement, but all you need to remember is the tag. That's the shelf you need to put it under (if you so desire and remember to add it to the shelf) is the shelf for the tag.

Does that make sense?

Thank you!

ETA: Don't worry about the year long challenges and if you don't remember at all, that's ok, too!

Jason Oliver | 3040 comments Its amazing to see this group grow just since I've been in it.

I did some homework, and, leaving room for error, we had 52 unique members post for "Crime" in May, averaging 7.2 books per participant.

If there is a way to get the threads in Excel form, I don't mind going back and calculating unique participants.

Wow! That is an interesting (and crazy!? LOL!) number.

Thank you for figuring that out.

I don't know if GR has a way to export threads into Excel. Not sure if anyone else knows...?
