Melissa | 5 comments I love maps in books. I have recently transitioned to a Kindle and I am getting increasingly frustrated with the inability to read any map that is part of a book. I have tried to enlarge the map with changing fonts which didn't work. Two friends I checked with also have the same problem.
I was wondering if anyone else shared my aggravation - and if so, has anyone ever tried approaching Amazon to complain? Aren't we far enough down the road with e-books to have this issue addressed? I miss my maps.

andie | 136 comments Yes, this is an annoying aspect of fantasy e-books. No, I don't think filling out an online Amazon form or emailing a general Kindle support line is going to result in any change. E-books are formatted very specifically to align with publishing standards and work across devices with radically different sizes, and maps are just not very well supported by that formatting and don't adjust well to size changes. Maps are also in a very small minority of books overall.

You can almost always find a book's map on Google images though, which is both much easier to read and manipulate than e-book or paper maps, and also more convenient in my opinion than trying to flip back and forth in a virtual book between the map and the place you're actually reading from.

Great - I'll try that. I went straight to the author's web site and was unable to read the one posted there.
