A city's medical system and services, as well as its health conditions, reflect the city's culture and civilization. Hong Kong is an international city with advanced medical technology and high-level medical services. Interestingly, before and after the opening of Hong Kong, the public tended to accept traditional Chinese medicine treatment and resisted Western medicine. Later, Hong Kong’s medical development has made rapid progress, and Western medicine has become mainstream as it has been incorporated into the public medical system. Today, both Chinese and Western medicine operate in parallel in Hong Kong.
This book is divided into two parts. The first part provides an in-depth description and analysis of the changes in Hong Kong's medical and health care, sorting out the different stages of medical and health development from ancient times, the colonial period to the handover, and especially elaborating on various milestones in Hong Kong's medical community, comprehensively An in-depth analysis of the changes in the development of local medicine reflects changes in Hong Kong's history, medical system, society and people's livelihood, and economy. In addition, the author uses a large amount of first-hand information and combines the background of the times to vividly display the characteristics of medical technology in the relevant era and explore its impact on medical development. The second part interviews ten famous doctors in the medical field, recording the history of Hong Kong's medical and health care from a side perspective, and presenting the medical story of Hong Kong more truly.
