Matt | 150 comments This will give away spoilers through Chapter 9, so turn back now if you haven't gotten that far.

....

....

So, Jim screwed up. Badly. He just went weeks leaving the list, the one he was supposed to destroy immediately, sitting around. And then, knowing it was in Wesley's hands, he didn't call Park. Are we supposed to hate Jim at this point? Because I'm having a hard time feeling any sympathy. He knew bad things would happen, but he put off calling Park until the next morning. Which led to many Champions being killed. And then he put it off even more, allowing Park to be captured.

Granted, I have seen this behavior in college students--the willingness to put important things off and get lost in partying and video games. But people died. He is going to have to have a pretty major redemption moment.

The author has made it pretty clear so far how much this is all Jim's fault, so I'm sure this will be paid off later.

Wendy Cooper | 64 comments I feel like I need to stand up for Jeff here. I know y'all aren't being mean. I do, however feel the need to say something supportive. There are a couple of problems I have with this story, partly Jim and his stupidity with the list being one of them. But, even though it has its clunky moments, I still enjoyed this story. The idea behind this story has merit and it kept me interested enough to finish it on out. And, I think Jeff will only get better with time.

Matt | 150 comments Oh, absolutely. I think Jeff does a great job with the story. I have now finished the book, and see how he takes responsibility, acts heroically and selflessly, and feels remorse for his mistakes. I was mad at the character at the time, but that means I felt the character was real enough to be mad at. I have some issues with some technical things in the book, but the story and the world are fantastic, and I cant wait to read Jeff's follow up.
