Michael (fisher_of_men) A Christian's life revolves around Christ. Since the Old Testament was written before Christ came, what, if anything, can a Christian learn from the Old Testament? Is it as relevant to a believer's growth as the New Testament is?

Yan | 38 comments I've only read the Old Testament once. The key takeaway for me is obedience to God. It's a recurring theme between Israel's disobedience and the punishment they received. I learned the importance of obedience from the Old Testament.

Other relevance of the Old Testament is foreshadowing of Jesus Christ especially in the book of Genesis, God's plan of redemption for both Gentiles and Jews illustrated in the book of Ruth... Additionally, there's Bible prophecy. The virgin birth of Jesus, His death, etc were prophesied by Isaiah 700+ years before He was born.

Patti Greene | 3 comments Yes, the Old Testament is absolutely relevant to a believer's life. Oh my, the stories, the principles, and learning about evil and how it works are only a few reasons why the Old Testament is relevant.
